Tagged out in New Mexico. First mule deer. He isn't big hank, but he followed the script exactly. I figured it's been pretty dry the last several months so opening morning I snuck into a water hole I scouted last month. He came in 5 minutes before legal shooting light. Gave me some time to get settled and make sure he was legal. 1 minute after legal, he stood exactly where I wanted him. Those 500 rounds of practice this summer paid off. Perfect double lung top of the heart shot. Prone off my bipod. Have to say the Leupold VX-3i lived up to the lowlight hype. It was in a little valley and still pretty dark. I could see him clearly though. This is my first time I was not surprised to see a deer and had a plan that worked perfect so I am pretty stoked. Throwing a shoulder in the smoker tomorrow.

👍👍👍

Very good eating. Had the heart and tenderloins as a nice appetizer. Spent the day yesterday smoking this front shoulder. They loved it. Never doing front legs any other way from now on.

Congrats. This past year was my first time for hunting mule deer also. Being from Michigan, it took a few years to draw a tag in AZ. Fortunately my son lives there and was able to scout for me prior to my hunt. On the third morning of my hunt he glassed up a dandy 4x4 when it got up from it's bed and I was able to make a good shot on it. To top it off to my surprise, the venison is actually better than expected. Especially coming from an older deer. It was definitely my most memorable hunt.
