I just want to hunt and not have to knock on lot of doors. I’ve alway been a meat hunter so I suppose I’d burn my points on a cow. Never been out west and could use it as a learning trip.
Definitely need to relearn how Wyoming works.
It’s all depends on how good the parcel data is and the local control. And whether the parcel data has been adjusted to the local control.
I work of the local county land survey dept. my job is to maintain or re establish the section and quarter section corners.
In areas were the corners are...
I would say I’d go as low as 7mm08 but I’d only go as high as 30-06. Not going to beat myself up and go bigger. Both with the correct bullet will work well to 400yds and that the range I would like to stay in.
I get the small cartridge craze right now. The data is there. From what I’ve...
First off, the 7mm08 is a fantastic cartridge.
Second, go as low weight as you like. As far as 175gr? If you have the twist and the mag length to support it send it.
100% get what what you say about hunting with youth hunters and follow up shots. I agree take all the shots needed but the shots and deer taken I mentioned previously where made by 37-40 year old hunters in my camp.
Also my camp of 5 hunters including me is up to 5 deer so far this season and I...
I’m my neck of the woods if you find the PRCs on the shelf it’s going to be the precision hunter and that’s it. I’ve actually noticed the 6.5 creedmoor seems to be disappearing. Fewer and fewer ammunition offering available at the LGSs. I’m talking less than the 7mm08 or 300win. Which makes...
I’ve thought about this topic a quite bit over the last year or so, because I too have nephews and nieces coming of age soon.
I really like the looks of the CVA scouts and my only concern with starting kids out with a hammered rifle is the possibility hammer slipping when decocking.
I really...
I’ll agree with you about Remington being garbage. In terms of tikka I’d say you are getting a really excellent rifle for the price.
I’m curious of the reasons sako is better the tikka in your opinion.
I’m 6weeks into my season and 10miles south of the border! Let me shoot them for a minute! 🤣. I need two more mornings of shooting them and then I’ll send them. I grab the deer rifle for Saturday.
I’ve been hunting for 10years in northern MN and this last weekend I found the spot and the ducks are here! I got my first band!
Season is almost over and waters are locking up.
A Tikka T3x 7mm08 sounds like what you need. 7mm08 is a fantastic cartridge that I’d glad hunt to 400-500yds with the correct bullet choice for the game I’m chasing.
Rogue summit hunter on YouTube has a lot of videos on reloading and long range 7mm08
I have many Ruger American and the triggers are supposed to be adjustable from 3-5lbs. I put one of these

In my competition 5.56 ranch and its around 2lbs. And no you don’t need a gunsmith to do it. It’s a 10min job.
And...
I’d probably buy the tikka and load the 120gr TTSX hot (which is what I do for my wife’s 7mm08) and hunt that the rest of my life. I hunt mostly whitetail in MN but I’d just bump out to the 139gr LRX for out west.
If you are worried about losing velocity with the 20” barrel I wouldn’t. Most standard rifles in 7mm08 are typically in the 22” range I believe.
The 7mm08 is a wonder cartridge and i personally would use it for my one and done cartridge if that were ever to happen.
As for the rifles I have two...
