    Realistic shooting distances

Reality is that there are too many variables to have a set distance limit. There are 800yd shots I would take and 50yd shots I wouldn’t. It comes down to having the experience to know which one that particular shot is.

Co elk success rates by season

I’ve hunted enough states that it’s fuzzy, but I don’t remember even being asked if I were successful when I killed a bull 2 years ago.

    Montana general season questions

I was gonna ask about wolf tags. Fairly cheep, so worth having?

    Montana general season questions

Pretty funny to be planning next season when this season isnt closed yet. But, I’ve done all my trips for the year so what else am I supposed to do. My wife has never hunted and has decided she wants to try it next year. I have to burn my Montana points next year and she bought one this year...

    Powerball 1.9 Billion Tomorrow

I would spend a Lot of it on ensuring that I can remain active well into old age. I would hire a chef/nutritionist and a physical therapist/trainer. I would then spend a lot of my time acquiring skills to be as self sufficient as possible.. welding, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, gardening, stock...

    As they lay

It wasn’t terrible. I took the two hinds off and gutted it. That made it light enough for me to flip it over and grab some pics. Just cropped them so you couldn’t see the missing back.

    WI newb

Hey all, New guy from WI here. My first big game animal ever was an Antelope when I was 12. A guy my dad worked with brought us to eastern WY on a hunt and I’ve been hooked on “out west”. That was bad when you had to mail in for an application book and there was no internet. Honestly, it...

    Plans for 2023

My wife, who has never hunted, wants to go west and shoot something… she doesn’t care what state or species. I think our 3 options are MT Big game combo(I need to spend my points anyway), CO OTC or low draw tag or I probably have enough WY deer points to draw a general tag on a party app...

    Montana Public Land Bull, Finally

I would say you are in the park at 320ish maybe a bit bigger. A dandy bull and a great trophy. This one taped at 321ish (I’m no expert so consider that a ballpark not an exact measurement)

    Mouse fart loads

What buffer do you have in your ARs? You may be able to mess with buffer/spring combos and go lighter if you desire. You could even experiment with clipping a couple coils off a spare buffer spring.

    When to use a bipod

I have tested it on several guns. Generally no, I do have a M70 featherweight that it does between the non free float and pencil barrel.

    1st elk hunt/I need a psychiatrist

Shooting bone is unpredictable from what I’ve seen. Bullets do weird stuff sometimes when they hit them. If they are broadside, they don’t go far with no lungs. Making that trip, staying in the woods and returning solo is an accomplishment of its own. You did real well for your first time.

    When to use a bipod

For years I used either my pack or tripod. This year I tried a 13-27inch bipod. Let’s me get seated and use my pack for rear support. As stable as prone but fits in way more situations. Less messing around than off the tripod switching heads and such. I don’t take tons of long shots, but I...
