My grandma died of CJD in Dillon about 10 years ago. Her Dr. at the time told my mom that he would never say it out loud in town, but he thought there was a hot spot of CJD in the area that had to be related to CWD. However, I haven't been able to find any data actually indicating a...
I'm 9 weeks into the journey of fatherhood, so it's all pretty fresh and I have to echo what many others have said - no matter how cool your wife is, you need to temper your expectations about time hunting. Something I didn't realize before the baby came - they want to be held 100% of the time...
Howa super lite is a pound lighter and $2k cheaper. No experience with the Bergara but it does look pretty sweet and I imagine the bolt feels a little... more refined... than the Howa.
Not sure what was more impressive - the photo quality (every one looked like a Charlie Russell painting) or your perseverance throughout that hunt. Amazing hunt and a somehow more amazing write up. Thanks for sharing.
Everyone talks about how happy the nordic countries are, but the fact that lutefisk is still something they choose to eat tells me they're hiding a dark side.
When I look at OnX, there's a little T-shaped 4 sections that's Type 2 (Beaverpond Holdings LLC); other than that, pretty much the entire district is Sieben or Chevalier, both Type 1 that don't even require signing in at a box. They're closed for spring bear/turkey but I see trucks parked off...
Limited B tags and heavily limited bull tags. And less road access than most forest service around Helena. I'm sure the majority of those B tags try to road hunt it and think it sucks. The recipe for good hunting isn't that hard.
Sieben is Type 1, killed or been a part of a bundle of elk kills there in the last few years. Definitely don't group them in with the bad actors - it's some of the best elk hunting in the area.
For some reason, this feels like the right place for this:

I hate to give them free advertising, but there might be a few customers on this thread. Might even get some to open the Bibles.
Guess I learned something today. Coastal engineering is a different beast, and obviously the size of potential impacts to a bridge superstructure on a river in Montana are orders of magnitude less than that container ship. I still have a hard time imagining a concrete plinth that could take...
Hydraulic engineer here, not structural so take it with a grain of salt. If we design bridges to take that kind of impact, the entire US transportation budget will be lucky to build one every 10 years. Everything is a balance of risk vs cost; with enough money anything is possible, but design...
Big thanks to the real-world examples chiming in of working hard and still needing help from the system. Do people get money that shouldn't sometimes? Absolutely. But I think there are a lot more stories like yours that people might have a hard time seeing from their perches way up on those...
So defund them? 😉
I agree, innocent people are killed by cops with disturbing frequency, and a lot of them are people of color (like Breonna Taylor), and no-knock warrants are just asking for a situation to escalate. But I also think this guy wasn’t just on the ATF’s radar for buying guns and...
Couldn't agree more on the rough bolt. This was the first 2-stage trigger I've shot and it took a while to get used to, but by the end of barrel break-in, testing different factory ammo, and getting it zeroed, I'm coming around to it. It's a bit of an existential crisis because I don't like...
Gun shots wouldn't qualify as extended periods of time, and it's important to note that the decibel scale is logarithmic (base 10), so 30 dB is a 1000x reduction in noise intensity. The goal is to reduce the noise intensity to a low enough level that brief exposure doesn't cause hearing damage...
