This country's hard on people. You can't stop what's coming.

Do you keep a journal during your hunts? The detail is impressive but the really fantastic part about all your write-ups is the introspection. The description of how you feel at various points really makes it relatable and makes it more than just a hunting story. 10/10 writing.

    New ESA Rule

The way federal regulators allow companies to behave would absolutely change. If you remove guardrail on a cliff, it doesn’t change the speed of drivers going around the curve but it sure as hell changes the outcome.

New Zealand touristy stuff and Red Stag hunt

I love those pronghorn mounts. I don't have the space for shoulder mounts in general, but I also prefer the look of euros in most cases. But when I shoot a pronghorn buck worth mounting, that'll be my one shoulder mount and the poses you have are perfect.

What are you guys paying for gas?

Costco has been holding steady for quite a while but it finally bumped to catch up. $4.499 for regular today.

Seth Bodnar - independent US Senate candidate

I think the second part is pretty clear by the sum of his posts here. I don't think there's a single more predictable poster on this site.

    Gas/Fuel Price and hunting plans

Yep. I'll put like 2500 miles on it this year, so the cost of registration and insurance is probably worse than the gas per mile, but it'll get a lot more use next year when we don't have newborn. My wife's 7-year-old Rav4 is like $250 annually, and I just did permanent registration on my...

    Gas/Fuel Price and hunting plans

My truck registration was $550 this year. It'll be less next year because it'll be over 5 years old, but they really nail you as the GVW increases here.

    Gas/Fuel Price and hunting plans

Second kid just started daycare and we pay it with the same Costco visa as most of our gas. It's always a little eye-opening reading the price on the pump, but it fades quick and feels like a blip when the statement with $2500 in daycare comes.

    Never bone out shoulder again

I can’t imagine how thin an Antelope flatiron would be! I’ve done it with deer a time or 2 but decided it wasn’t worth the effort. I’ll do it for elk but nothing smaller.

    Budget trekking poles

Not particularly helpful for your hunt this season, but if you get them in store in the summer, they’re more like $30 or maybe $40. I was in the same boat looking at the start of hunting season and couldn’t stomach the online price, so I just decided to forego them but found them way cheaper...

What are you guys paying for gas?

$4.85 for 87 at Clearwater on Friday. Made the 8.5 mpg in my gasser tow rig pretty painful, but not sure the math maths for diesel mpg's when diesel was $6.04. Filled up in Seeley on the way back for only $4.39.

    UTV windshield suggestions

I have an older Wolverine X4 with the glass OEM windshield - I think that’s the only realistic option for a tight seal and if you want to potentially add a full cab in the future. Definitely need a rear window as well, as just having a front sucks in dust like crazy.

What is the wait time going to be for suppressor approval starting 1/1/2026?

The thing that confuses me is what happens with suppressors bought in states that have no form 4 but then brought to states that do require it? Like if I lived in Idaho and bought a can, but then moved to Montana, would I need to file a form 4 for the suppressor I already possess? Even if the...

Then it would be no fun checking the draw results :ROFLMAO:

    Pronghorn

Of all the low-odds tags, a pronghorn doe close to the parents house is about as lucky as I can get. Don't need to be out a first light or last light, don't need to hold out for a big one, just a fun chance to get some extra meat.

    Pronghorn

Was trying not to draw due to a new baby, so I put in for lower odds tags closer to home. Worked for buck but I drew the doe tag in the new(old) HD south of Great Falls. The hoot BMA's are within 15 minutes of my parents house, so I should be able to get out there a bit, but certainly doesn't...

The big 18 and adult things?

Lopehunter already said it, but everything in moderation. If you aren’t already addicted to nicotine, don’t start - I have way too many friends with a can of Zyn in their desk, their truck, their nightstand, and everywhere else you can imagine. And avoid gambling on your phone. If you want to...

Seth Bodnar - independent US Senate candidate

I think the lesson in your experience vs Montana is the same - single party rule where the only competitive races are primaries are bad for everyone, regardless of how ideologically you align with either party.

Seth Bodnar - independent US Senate candidate

This is the real kicker. The two parties get all the hate, but the truth is it's the super PACs controlling the direction of the parties. It sure as hell wasn't the RNC that sunk Cornyn, if they had their way they sure wouldn't have sunk $100M into picking the candidate they would have to...
