Planning for an Eastern Montana mule deer hunt

Hunting with dad/granddad, regardless of game or state or age class is priceless. Get out, get hunting, and enjoy the experience.

    Rifle for the ranch.

Gramps has used the same 6mm Remington 700 with an old Bushnell on the farm as long as I can remember. The old man is still the best shot I’ve ever seen.

    30.06

Next to George Strait, Apple pie, and baseball, nothing epitomizes America like the 30-06 😍 congrats on the maple!

    Bullet selection for 6.5 cm

I’ve noticed the 6.5creed is one of the most forgiving rifles I’ve owned when it comes to ammo (I own 6mm rem, 7mm rem mag, 30-06, 300WM). It shoots damn near everything well (except Hornady Superformance). Best groups I’ve got were the 135g Berger Hybrids. Next best groups were 129g Hornady...

Factory Ammunition Help - 7 Rem Mag

The only factory ammo my XBolt 7rem mag likes is the 168g Federal Premium Berger Hybrids. Heavier bullet seems to group better. Best of luck!

    Which one.

30-06 gets the vote But damnit do I love my 7mm rem mag

    Spotting Scopes; Talk to Me

Vortex Viper HD 15-45x65 Angled Goes for $699 and is incredible glass, and Vortex warranty is second to none I can spot livestock on a farm roughly 2 miles away and count every cow (aka you’ll be able to see an elk and know it’s an elk at great distance) If your budget is $1,000 this spotter...

Who else uses a tag as a purchase excuse?

Best advice I ever got was from Mom: “Buy em while you can because when you’re married you’ll be lucky to get permission to use em, let alone purchase” So I went out and bought a Christensen Ridgeline 300WM for good measure

    Price point = good scopes

I have a VX3i 3.5-10x40 on a .30-06 and have been very pleased with it. Crisp glass, but further than 350yds, could use more magnification. I have a Viper 6.5-20x50 on a 7mm Rem Mag and it’s a wonderful piece of glass. Both were in the $400-$500 range and have served me very well. Good luck...

    7mm Rem Mag Cartridge

I’m sure there’s a thread already, but curious what your favorite 7mm rem mag ammo is? Browning XBolt Stainless Stalker 26” barrel, 1:9.5 twist Mule Deer So far: 1. Hates Hornady SST Superformance 154g - can’t get it to group whatsoever 2. Loves the cheap Federal Blue Box 150g (1.5” @ 200, 3”...

    30-06 nosler vs hornady

My Browning XBolt Hunter 22” Barrel absolutely hates the Superformance 165g. Flyers everywhere. Sure as shit I throw in some Federal Blue Box 150g and I’m 2” @ 200. Sticking with the cheapo’s or trying Federal Premium Berger Hybrids in 168

    Browning 6.5 Creedmoor Ammo

I have the same make and model, so far: Hornady Superformance 129g SST = can’t group whatsoever Hornady American Whitetail 129g = sub MOA (1.7” @ 200) Next up Federal Premium Berger Hybrid 135g

Idaho Public Hunt - First Timer

Prospective Idaho Mule Deer Hunter (I'm sick of chasing whitetails with slugs in SW MN). Looking to make a drive west for rifle season. Open to controlled units as well as OTC. Been doing a ton of research from IDFG harvest statistics, public land %s, and draw odds. Marking roads/trails in each...
