So just for giggles, I went on to Sportsman's Warehouse site this morning and search rifle ammo, and selected, "Exclude out of stock". One item came up, 416 Weatherby ammo. I know, for me, last year I switch between 3 different rifles prepping for my deer tag here in Colorado. I switch because...
Welcome. I lived in Cheyenne for 4 years. Waterfowl hunting will be tough. But pronghorn and mulies can be found just out side( sometime inside) the city limits. Elk can also be easy to find with short drives. Good luck.
Quick update, the kodiak was alot warmer and way easier the set up at muzzy camp. Not the coldest hunt, but a noticeable difference over my old Cabelas nylon dome tent. And higher ceilings, much appreciated.
Thanks for all the input and please keep it coming.
I'm leaning towards a 10x10 for 1-2 people with a buddy heater, vented, at first. Sept muzzleloader camp is a group effort for me. So we have a large 12x20 kitchen tent to cook, eat, and general hang out. And we butcher our elk there too...
I'm thinking of a last minute tent upgrade from a Cabelas 6-man geodome nylon tent to a Kodiak 6-man canvas flex bow tent. Anyone with firsthand experience with the Kodiak think they are worth it?
Looking to use it mid-Sept, in Colorado at 8000ft. Overnight temps can drop to 20s or lower.
Shannerdrake, what kind of velocities are you pushing the 270 copper BOR locks? These seem to group the best out of my Encore but a little concerned about on game performance. I shot a muley, quartering away, and was not impressed with penetration or opening of the BOR lock copper. Might have...
I used a 270 Federal B.O.R. Lock a few years ago on a muley and wasn't excited about the performance on the animal, not great penetration or opening, it was a tough quartering away angle. What are you 270 copper B.O.R Lock fans getting for muzzle velocity? I got a new barrel on my Encore and...
Wow, thanks for all the input. As much as I would love to buy a 6.5x284, I simply don't have time to reload, safely, and by myself right now. My 7 yo is in my side pocket all the time and wants to help with everything. I already had some case-head separation on a few 280s S. Results of his help...
"Grandpa was a Carpenter" and "Often is a word I seldom use", two of my favs. Still listen to the Sweat Revenge album on my way to muzxy elk camp everyyear. RIP
Looking at a 6.5x284. Any thoughts on this cartridge? How hard is it to find factory or specialty ammo? I can hand load, but my 6 yo likes to help, not the best combo. Thanks.
