I hate the NM outfitter pool. Hate, hate, hate it. I had never given it too much thought until this year when I showed up to my favorite spot on a hunt I maybe draw once every three years. An outfitter had set up a giant camp a half mile from where we've always camped, at the convergence of...
I don't think people are reading this correctly. It's about camping in the same spot for 16 days in a row. Pretty sure this already exists in the New Mexico region. It's to prevent people from setting up their RV for the summer and treating it like their summer home, running back to town for...
We chartered a trip on Yellowstone lake with Grandpa. It was a great way to not have to go to ol faithful. Someday, when I have a much bigger boat, I'll be back DIY. That is, if they haven't figured out how to exterminate the lakers by then. Not pictured are a handful of 18-22" cutthroats.
I was having my boat inspected by a game warden a few years ago and he mentioned that some people hunt by boat on Navajo lake. I've been fascinated by that idea ever since. That might not be the best way to maximize trophy potential but sure would be fun.
No, the draw odds are too long. I can't draw 6A let alone B. We have a cabin down the road so I spend a lot of time in the area. I can't imagine a better elk hunt in terms of elk density and so few hunters. Congrats.
Feel free to dm me if you have any logistical questions about the area...
This is from the day before the archery opener a few years back. There's a couple of elk around there. Sorry for the poor quality, just holding my phone up to a terrible spotter.
Rural counties are losing population. https://www.census.gov/content/dam/Census/library/stories/2021/08/more-than-half-of-united-states-counties-were-smaller-in-2020-than-in-2010-figure-1.jpg. There are a lot of great places for hunting and fishing on that map, which are losing population.
I saw very similar ones in the Wind River range last year. People would drive sheep all the way there from New Mexico, as I understand it. What a trip.
