I love my hammock and I tend to sleep better in that than I do almost anywhere else. I have ridden out several storms, and extended weather, in both the Cascades and the Coastal Range here in Oregon. I have had slept wonderfully through both dry 60 degree nights and cold sub freezing ones. I...
I am in elevatorman's camp. For me it is all about penetration and arrow flight. I am perfectly ok sacrificing speed if I have to, but I prefer a heavier setup. It all depends on the performance that you would like out of your arrow.
I hunt in western Oregon for the most part.....it rains a lot. Most of the time it isn't so much the rain falling from the sky that will matte feathers, at least in my experience. It is all of the water dripping off of all of the brush, tall grass, low limbs, etc. I refletched some of my arrows...
No you may not. It is one of the 10 commandments of traditional shooting, "Thou shalt not use a release aide". It is in between "Ensure thine FOC is extreme" and "Though shalt shoot only off the shelf".
All kidding aside, I don't see why you couldn't. It might be a little interesting setting...
I grew up in the Coos Bay/North Bend area, and although it is home and I am rather fond of it, it is a little dirty as someone else had said. Like a lot of towns, there are some really nice places and some areas that I wouldn't want to walk around at night.
Myrtle Point and Coquille are really...
I didn't see this one listed. I will take my clothes that I plan on wearing for the next day, but don't actually want to wear to sleep in, and place them in my sleeping bag. Wake up the next morning and get dressed with warm clothes on a chilly morning.
I have just the Commander frame and I am strongly considering getting the bag as an addition. I have been loading my gear into stuff sacks and using the compression straps to hold it into place for backpacking trips. The frame itself has been awesome. Comfortable, lightweight, and has been a...
I am glad that ODFW has finally made some sort of change towards addressing the herd decline in the east side of Oregon, and I archery hunt for elk. The only thing about this change that I could see people having a reason to get upset about is if they live deep in the east. If you didn't draw a...
Sounds like a fun hunt. Good luck and I look forward to the story post when it is all over. Here are a couple of things that I have learned.
- Water weighs a lot, but is very important, if you can help it carry as little as you can. Make sure that you have a consistent spot to get water and a...
I am in Oregon where battery powered motion decoys are illegal, which is what your photo looks like, so I have no personal experience with them. That being said, the only negative thing I have really heard about these types of decoys is that they are heavier than most others. If you have a...
Hunting coastal blacktails in Oregon I typically see 7-10 deer on a good day. Maybe 1 of those would be a buck. This last year however I saw 7 deer the whole month long general season, and no bucks. I did see a lot more beer sign in our "normal" area.
We do basically the same thing but with the vine maple that grows where we hunt. We picked up a couple of camo nets that we will drape over the the maples to help us hide a little bit better.
I was not a fan of the 5 gallon bucket, but that is simply because we have about a half mile hike to get to our normal hunting spot. I could never figure out a good way to carry it out there. I found a couple of those chinsey folding tripod seats that I can fit into my decoy bag. Then once I get...
I have used a sneak boat a couple of times, but I have never used any of the other watercraft that you mentioned. So take this with a grain of salt.
If you plan on using decoys out in open water then I would go with a larger pontoon or kayak. Something with enough of a storage/cargo area for...
