    Kuiu attack pants

I'm a rare one who pretty much never wears my attacks hunting anymore. They're super comfortable, but were way too hot for me in MT Sept archery. For rifle season in snow I like having even a little more protection in the butt and knees from water intrusion. That all said, my buddies who...

    Spotting scope tripod

For a light weight tripod that's great for binos and still works for my big Kowa 88 spotter, I use the Slik CF 634. The guys at S and S Archery suggested I try it out for my spotter and worked fine. Sure, a bigger, heavier one will be more stable, but for when I'm backpacking I valued lighter...

Frank Church Wilderness to allow chain saws......

Interesting article and how one of the people said that crosscut are as fast as a chainsaw. Even if that is so, in the hands of an expert, I'm guessing the barrier for entry is far lower with a chainsaw, as it's something most outdoorsmen have and know how to use at some proficiency level...

    Fitting Chains on Front

or when I stopped my truck, and after a second or two started to slide. Realized at that moment I shouldn't have been lazy about putting on chains. Was just a packed snow forest road in November, without even being super icy. Luckily learned my lesson without going over the edge.

    Fitting Chains on Front

Yeah, I so rarely use chains, but for the safety/comfort factor I'm going to invest in the offset wheels again to allow real chains up front. I admit that I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to losing traction on those off camber forest road turns in a 5-8k lb truck.

    Fitting Chains on Front

Old thread, but dealing with same issue. How many miles/conditions have you driven on those light front chains? Have they held up as they would allow a lesser offset if I get new offset wheels again. That worked on my last truck but would rather not poke my tires out too far. Thx

What doing to silence bugle tube knocking against pack?

I haven't found something that won't bang a little and make noise, so I just have to more careful.

What am I missing UTV vs. Jeep

I went through this exact process and the bottom line conclusion was it depends on the type of roads you'll be driving. Where I'm at the forest roads are not ridiculously filled with pot holes, washboard and big rocks. So in the UTV I couldn't actually go that much faster than a truck/suv, due...

    Let’s see them camps!

Minimalist September camp chasing bugles w @Beignet, who a rutting moose was rather put out by during his midnight snack.

    Let’s see them camps!

Packed a 40 down quilt to go over my bag, which worked great, but glassing in the morning with frozen boots was chilly. Tried the toe warmers and not enough heat, so next time if no fire I'll try the insole warmers for glassing. When moving, feet were fine. Single wall tarptent dipole 2 is...

    Compact rifle opinions

May consider Kimber Hunter or Mountain Ascent rifles if like light. Mine and my buddy's all shoot sub moa with factory ammo and come in at about 5.5lbs. Not sure prices now, but the Hunter used to be very reasonable for what you get.

    Why poaching fines so low?

Hi All, Read this morning of this big poaching bust yet only $23k in fines. Heck, that’s way cheaper than one would pay for landowner/auction/etc tags to access all those animals. The article doesn’t have much detail but what am I missing here? Why not bigger fines...

Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

This is a good one to share with our (R) elected officials to help them grasp that this is not a (D) thing and will not end well for (R's) if they choose to die on this hill or make it a long term platform push.

Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

I recommend reiterating again and again the threat that Sen. Daines and Sheehy (for MT folk) will NOT be reelected by Montanans if they support or vote for the sale of public lands in this Budget Bill or in the future. It would so clearly go against our values. We can't rely on a politician's...

Federal Land Sales for Affordable Housing?

Timing was impeccable when I got a response email from Senator Sheehy's office professing his undying loyalty to public lands, hunting, access, etc...then a day later the House decides to sell off public lands. Perfect opportunity to send a reply message calling him out if he stands by his...

    Achilles tendinitis brace/sleeves for hiking

I feel for you as I’ve been dealing with it for about 5 years. Universal pro recommendation is always those exercises Coop showed, as most important, then stretching. I recommend NOT doing the isometric exercises barefoot as it seems to have strained some tiny muscles in my left arch too much...

    Antelope...Lets See Them!!!

MT 2024. Got on stalks every day but I waited a few weeks to avoid the crowds and they had gotten mighty skittish. Eventually filled my buck and doe tags, but wasn't as "easy" as drive to within 150yds, lay the rifle on the hood and shoot. Some places, maybe but not where I was in MT. I...
