    Muzzleloader Hogs

SC is pretty liberal with its hunting regs. We actually don’t have a muzzleloader season in the lower half of the state. A few state and federal areas have “primitive weapons hunts”.

    Muzzleloader Hogs

I shot these on a primitive weapons hunt here in SC. Both shot at about 50 yds about an hour apart. Remington 700 ML, Barnes TEZ over Triple 7 In 2 days of hunting I saw 20-25 hogs. I could have shot more, but was holding out for a nice buck I had seen while scouting

    25-06 with 110 Hornady ELD-X - Powder suggestion

I always had good results with 4831 and RL22 with 117 Sierras and 115 NBTs. I bought some 115 Berger’s and tried H1000 after talking to Bergers tech support. 58.0 grains is a pretty common load. It gives me 3090 with excellent accuracy out of a 24” Bartlein 1-10 twist. The ELDX factory ammo is...

    223 fine crosshair scope

I had FX3 fixed 12X with fine duplex and target turrets on and old Savage 112 J .222. It’s perfect for punching paper and varmints. Wish they still made them.

Some giant bears killed this year in NC

They can do that all across the south, but they dont get that big anywhere else. We have the same feed, climate ,and habitat in coastal SC. Those giant bears have found a supplemental food source. Theyre not getting that big on corn and peanuts alone.

Some giant bears killed this year in NC

They’re raiding the dead bins ( eating dead hogs) and eating waste hog food on hog farms. Im a few hours south, same climate, same ag, but no hog farms. A BIG coastal bear here is 350- 400.

    Show me your Subaru

Left our pickups in South Carolina and drove my sons Crosstek commuter to WY to hunt antelope, then back thru SD for some bird hunting. The Subie did great on the 5K trip, and we saved a ton on gas. Subarus and Creedmoors have a lot in common. They both work well and people love to hate them for...

    6.5 Grendel vs .243 win

Youre right. Someone brought up a .223 as a low recoil option. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Deleted.

first archery kill jumped the string

Shoot for the bottom of the vitals, preferably with head down and feeding. Slightly quartering away is better. Inside of 25 yards is even better. No matter how much technology advances it’s still a short range game with unforgiving shot placement. The social media jackasses launching arrows at...

    Barnes TTSX-BT 140gn 7mm-08

Measure your brass length. Brass may be stretching and if you aren’t trimming it will cause pressure issues and inconsistent results. Multiple firings of warm loads, plus soft brass, plus full length sizing, in a factory chamber will give you some of the issues you are seeing.

The ambiguity of theft and failure of enforcement

Dont waste your time calling the cops. Bureacrats with badges. You have to decide if youre willing to live with the consequence of taking action. I am. Word gets around and they look for easier prey.
