What Caliber
I had a 6.5x284, after I shot it out I put a 284 barrel on. I like the 284 better, both are plagued by a lack of consistent brass availability at times. If you find brass buy a bunch and don't abuse it with over book loads. -

Athlon Scopes

Age data and skull character
My guess is that nutrition has a good part to play in the size/score equation. Some of the oldest bears I have seen were tiny females. Sierra Game Changers for Elk?
I've shot 3 elk with the 165-.284 version, along with several deer. Elk harvested ranged from 80 yards to 380. Recovered the bullet from the farthest elk. Trijicon scopes?

When running your numbers I would look at drop and drift. I don't believe energy values really tell you much. As others have mentioned, you will see a more noticeable difference beyond 500 yards when comparing the two.- why
