Definitely agree with the replica horns. I have my euro with a simple skull hook here in Denver and used the replica horns on the shoulder mount at the cabin. I loved it so much I am doing that for my oryx from last year (which I hope to be getting back anytime now).
Reading that earlier today helped me piece more of it together in my mind. I couldn’t help but think three things -
1. so unfortunate for those guys. Such a tragedy for them to get taken. That said, I know they will spur much more awareness to many others about lightning safety. Which leads me...
SOOOOO AWESOME!!!!
How the heck do you sneak up on an oryx at 20?!?!?! Impressive!!
I have a broken horn tag coming up in January on range. I hope to find some that I have a chance at.
Congrats to you guys! I love those critters.
I realized I never closed the loop here. I posted my recap of the hunt in a different thread. That said, the information and thoughts here were very helpful in scheming my plan and approach to the hunt overall. In the end, I was solo when I shot the bull, but was only solo as I worked to get...
How old is your son? As others said, it will depend on where he will likely be spending most of his time fishing. That said, go with a company that has a great replacement/warranty program… I’ve sent back many rods in my life to either be repaired or replaced, and am grateful when it’s just a...
Once back at camp, we got the meat hung up. We grilled up some fresh meat that night, paired with some instant mashed potatoes and were loving it! The wife and kids arrived the next morning and we soaked up the day. The kids were all pumped. We broke down camp the following morning which was...
It's short notice but here is a link and some information about a public lands caucus that is specifically looking to address some topics that are near and dear to our hearts so I wanted to share in case others could join.
Here are some details: 9/23 at noon (Mountain time)

After the moment dawns on me, I get on the inReach to first alert the wife on the home front, and then also my buddy who was elk hunting relatively nearby. I take quick stock of the lay of the land and realize just how fortunate I was for where he fell. While it's still in the thick of the...
I grabbed my bow, just when the larger bull was chasing around the cow. She seemed to have enough of him, and was trotting up the hill, calf in tow. He didn’t pursue her, but dropped down toward the creek and into the willows. The smaller bull followed him. As the calf and cow got into the trees...
I returned to the unit on the evening before the opener, stopping first at two elk camps on my drive in to talk with folks who I had met the week before. They shared they had seen moose (and plenty of elk), but nothing they seemed overly excited about sending me after. Instead, I made it to camp...
We headed down as a family for labor day weekend and set up the wall tent which I set up in a central location for many different drainages I had my eye on with the intention it would serve as my home base for the entire hunt. Archery elk was slated to open on the Tuesday following labor day...
How could it be over so quickly!?!? Super grateful, excited, surprised, overwhelmed, lucky, a tinge sad... All of these things rattled through my head at lightning speed the morning of 9/6 this season.
I was one of the fortunate applicants in CO to have my name selected from the hat to hunt...
Echo all that has been said. Epic adventure - thanks for letting us ride along. I am sure you learned a ton more throughout this process than has presented itself yet that will translate into future success.
Also - I bet you are in shape now! Maintain some sort of program to maintain all...
