I got a buck tag in 444, 2nd season and was just wanting some in sight on the unit from people who have been there. I have never hunted Colorado or in mountains so one question is should I concentrate on lower elevation areas maybe in the west side. More private over there, a little blm. Or are...
thanks for replies. I never hunted elk before or hunted in the mountains so I didn't think about the terrain being that brushy. I'll have a tripod with me so maybe I'll add a rest to attach to it and leave my bipod on also. I have been practicing in a sitting position with bipod also out to 450...
do most you use a bipod on your rifles for elk hunting? I use a 13"-23" for antelope hunting in Wyoming but I think that may be taller than needed in mountains. I can't shoot prone with that one, I've been practicing more in prone position so I was thinking maybe put a shorter one on from...
I have a Vanguard walnut stock in 7-08, added a Timney trigger. It's been my go to rifle for years, very accurate. I have a TC venture in 7 mag which I have not hunted with much but have started shooting every week preparing for next years elk hunt. After putting 80 plus rounds thru it and a new...
Thanks for the replies. I haven't bought any yet, was leaning toward Kuiu but was shopping around still. I wonder if gator hide would be good for making gaiters???
Planning on 2nd season elk in Colorado. Is there typically snow that time of year? And would gaiters be something you would bring? The unit we are thinking about has elevation of around 8,500 to almost 12,000 feet. Probably be hunting mostly 9,000-10,000.
Thanks for the replies. Took them to my taxidermist today, the second one is taller with more mass but we agreed the wide one will be a cooler mount so I think i'm going to do a pedestal mount on him and do a euro on the other one
maybe freak is the wrong term but he is wider and splayed out more than a normal goat. Im no expert either but i have not seen many pictures of wide ones
Second buck
Sorry about the cell pics, had a camera malfunction. This buck I shot while it was beded down with some does. They never looked my direction.[/ATTACH]
Great Wyoming hunt. Stalked up a drainage and got within 100 yards of this lope. 2 doe were bedded in front of him, thought they would spook but they stayed put.

Fixed my problems in a day or two for $30 after spending several hundred and months with foot doctor
I went the middle of Oct. this year and was nothing like the first of Oct. last year. We saw only does and small bucks and they were bunched up. Last year we were seeing bucks and does scattered all around with good selection of bucks. This year it looked desolate. But as we were leaving the last...
nice buck
Being from the south east and having only hunted whitetails and hogs my whole life, I made it out to Wyoming in 2012 for an antelope hunt. My hunting partner was more interested in killing a western whitetail then I was even though thats all he had ever hunted also. Well the ranch we...
What's the story with area 79 ? I've noticed there are still left over tags and seems to be good public access. Also earlier on some of the surrounding areas had tags also. Are deer densities that low? Steep terrain? Just looking into future hunt areas.
