This is the song she chose for us to dance to at our wedding. 15 years this July 11th. Need to figure out something good.

    Stoking the fire

I hunted the morning, my last for this tag. It was quiet, except for some songbirds. After an hour and a half I picked up & reset back to where I rolled the Tom the evening before. Nada. Quiet in the creek bottom, the wind was picking up. About 11 I decided to bag it for the day. Work was...

    Stoking the fire

Picked up a hen decoy today and at on a creek bottom this evening. Tucked up under the pines, I had a good vantage spot. Called with the slate, had some gobbles, they kept working away, but I knew they would circle back. Sat and waited, clicks & purrs along with a few yelps now & again and a...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

That's a valid concern. Because the pressure on public gets limited through the use of B licenses under permit (or quota) on mule deer and cow elk, and you have choose your region for deer, the elk pressure will get spread out more than if it's all three species for all of this time, minus 1...

https://www.trcp.org/2022/09/28/new-study-shows-40-colorados-important-elk-habitat-affected-recreational-trail-use/ Craig's point is a huge one. And it's the basis of the proposal: Pressure on wildlife driving changes in location leading to more dramatic steps needed to deal with wildlife...

    Stoking the fire

I don't use the one I have now. Rain's moved out. I have some obligations this am before heading out for the afternoon & evening hunt. The solo hunting isn't as much fun as having a buddy along, so motivation tends to dip, especially ahead of a long work trip.

If you consider the change in terms of the totality of hunting seasons in MT, this would still allow for fewer days in total, if the shoulder seasons go away in the areas where they are not working. What landowners I've talked with are saying is that they're tired of the 6 months of elk hunting...

https://world-weather.info/forecast/usa/bozeman/september-2021/ You can check the historic record on temps in a few cities on that website. I'm seeing not much difference in temps between August 25th & standard archery opener.

Jacking up ag property rates means you get more billionaire landowners because that's who can afford the tax payment.

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

There's a concerted effort by FWP and groups like the Mule Deer Foundation to start working on the habitat side. 100% in agreement that Habitat needs to be front and center on these discussions, but the group, after discussing habitat, predations and seasons set on a path to work on season...

    Montana General Season Structure Proposal

Montanans already start killing elk on August 15th. That's when shoulder seasons start and some damage hunts.
