I use the Nosler balistic tips for my 7mm-08 and the Hornady SST. I have the same effect on with both of them on deer and elk. I have also used the Nosler for elk out of a 300 win. mag. Not a whole lot of damage on any of my animals yet. But of course I shoot for high shoulder or neck shots. The...
I didn't read all the posts cause they started off onto another subject. The 300 win mag is a great gun for elk. I shot mine last year with that caliber. You don't really need that much gun for elk though. I killed elk with my 7mm-08 too. Same result and alot less recoil. Depending on how far...
I agree there are to many whitetail hunts on tv. I feel there are not enough rifle hunts. Personally speaking a couple muley hunts, a elk hunt or two, Wolf would be great if they open the season back up, spot and stalk bear hunts are a blast to watch as long as there is not alot of down time...
For boots I bought a pair of Irish Setters. Got them in a Sportsmans warehouse closing for $60. Figured what could it hurt. Been a great pair of boots. Last falls elk hunt found me 3 miles from my ATV and after crossing 3 Streams my feet stayed dry and warm.
For the pack I just have a...
A close place to boise area also is up around third fork, above Sweet and Ola. I see then down low in the fall and winter. during the melt off they move up to higher ground. I have only hunted there once. I usually go up above grangeville for turkey. It gives me a chance to do my scouting for...
I have a Savage 7mm-08 and I love it. I killed my elk last fall at 416 yards. Another caliber that is a good and will be my next one is a 25-06 I watched my dad drop a elk at 650 yards with 100 grain bullet. That is my two choices for lighter calibers but will still reach out there and touch...
Idaho is a great choice for elk. Thats why I live in Idaho. Alot more things in Idaho to hunt other then elk. We have deer (mule and whitetail), pronghorn, cougar, bear, bighorn sheep, and one of my personal favorite, turkey.
I have a savage 7mm-08 that when I got it, it had a tasco scope on it. I put a cabelas brand 4.5x14-50mm. I have had great results with this scope so far. My dad has a couple of the cabelas scopes and they have a great warranty and very reasonably priced. Hope this helps.
I'm looking for anybody around the Boise area thats likes to go out shooting at just about anything (within the boundries of the law of course). Anything from squirls, rabbits, coyotes. Just looking to find people that are into the same things. Most of my friends like guns but dont go any...
We are aloud 3 birds a year. Either 2 in the spring and 1 in the fall or vise versa. Only toms aloud in the spring, and either sex in the fall. Where I hunt in northern Idaho the turkeys are so think there is no law against unroosting a bird. However I am not one to do this cause it takes away...
last spring I counted 5 bearded hens. I was told to wait for a tom. Low and behold I was eating my tag for spring turkey. I'm like bucnutz.wis, I start getting a itch to shoot when birds are around
I live in Idaho, and don't know what to do for coyotes. I have talked with some people about it and everybody tells me something different about what I should do. Unfortunately I am more of a visual learner and want somebody to show me. When that subject comes up nobody wants to show me in few...
