There are absolutely folks who aren’t price sensitive doing this right now, I’ve suggested it myself. If likely having it sooner is worth more than the extra $200 to you…

I ran the numbers. Should get me to 1800 yds with sufficient energy. Nothing will get away.
Garmin Xero, or Magnetospeed Sporter if you're on a budget. With the Garmin's release, the Labradar and Magnetospeed V3 have become much harder to recommend.
For the most part, I wouldn't bother with the rest of the market if they we free, I don't trust their accuracy enough.
2024 choices are uncertain for sure at this point, but if I don't get any new barrels between now and fall/winter it's most likely a Tikka 243 with 103 or 109 ELD's with my 22BR/88 ELD combo as backup. The 243 barrel is still relatively unknown, so it'll have to behave first. However elk are...
I had heard the rumor's the RR's were getting announced at SHOT by the time I submitted, but don't have the kind of connections required to actually get one early.
I've still got a 50% cert that I think I might use on a Magnus K RR for competition use, if another one comes my way this year I...
Just got two approvals, 80 and 81 days. I don't think it could have been more painless, appreciate having a competent local shop (Montana Tactical). They mentioned some recent submissions have been going extremely fast, including one that was IIRC 3 hours.
Cheapie walnut and a XL vibratory Lyman tumbler for me. I don't care about the shine, and I don't worry about the primer pockets at all. I do like the light layer of carbon, dust, and car wax that remains inside the necks. I actually don't tumble prior to sizing either, only after to remove...
Brass fired in a different chamber CAN be an issue, but probably isn't. I've got one batch that's been used in between five and eight different barrels and I haven't had to do anything special, but I have kept a close eye on headspace and it's generally been consistent within .001".
I keep my...
Agreed on all you wrote here VG. I think Dave has very helpful advice for the average person, if imperfect. But, as in many other fields, if you go all in on advocacy, you at some point leave the science and numbers behind.
You’d have to test it out against a control for sure, but if it was my full time job it’s something I’d want to try out.
I’m sure! Not to mention if you’re trying to take high speed photos, and working with a product that’s quickly decaying.
The rotation of the bullet in flight doesn’t slow at the same rate as forward movement does. If it starts with extra rpm’s it hangs on to them down range. Thus, you can’t just lower the muzzle velocity, shoot at close range, and get the same results.
Yep.
From the people I know who’ve been involved in doing gel testing at a professional level, reducing muzzle velocity to get a lower impact velocity will skew the results for exactly the reason you’re thinking. I took it from our conversation that they sometimes go to the trouble of doing the gel...
While I like what I’ve seen from ELD’s terminally, I’ve personally seen them come apart in other people’s rifles, never my own. Not crazy setups either, 6 Creeds and 6.5 PRC’s. Uncommon, but it has happened.
Tangent unrelated to the OP, apologies to Vikingsguy.
I read the book in 4th grade and the movie came out when I was in 6th. It was to me what Star Wars was to so many kids in the 70’s.
I was REALLY into dinosaurs probably a skosh longer than I really should have been. I got National...
Just pointing out, a 88 ELD and a 212 ELD have far more similar impact velocity ranges for ideal performance (I'm looking for 1800 fps minimum, would rather have 2000 fps), than they do energy ranges. Same as, if I was shooting .224 64 gr Hammer Hunters or .308 174 gr Hammer Hunters, I'm...
