    Red Moon

Whitetail topic - curious if anyone on here has a good understanding of the red moon from a hunting context. Looking into it, is it just the October and November full moons with conducive overhead and underfoot times to encourage movement? I know there is a moon guide that lays out hunting...

    Spartan Forge

Testing out Spartan Forge. So far I like certain aspects of it but it does seem more geared to the whitetail game which I do partake in so I like the weather, LiDAR, and historical aspects for that part. The layers don’t seem to be as extensive nor customizable as onyx but I have just been...

    Finally some good news

The technological assault on hunting marches on but it’s not all bad news. Utah and Arizona are taking some great steps. “AZ Game and Fish Commission voted unanimously to ban the use of crossbows during archery season starting in 2026. The "illegal" use of crossbows is having a major impact...

    Timeout Time

With the recent time out being handed out to our famous green can drinking orange man posting member, I’m just curious if the mods don’t mind laying out the options they wield as options to members for breaking the rules. The timeout is a new one to me. I also know they can effectively boot...

    CPW investigating

https://www.koaa.com/news/covering-colorado/man-in-canon-city-area-claims-self-defense-after-killing-a-mountain-lion Seems like the fact the lion was killed with a shovel would make the investigation pretty cut and dried. Should you let it bite you first and than smack it over the head? 😂

    Public Service Announcement

Just a quick note, for anyone getting all ramped up for the weekend. In a few of Montana’s select sheep units, it’s often said “any ram is a good ram from these units” This is disinformation and incorrect. If you’re going to put the time and effort in on these hunts, not to mention the 7...

    Reloading in hot weather

I know there are some very good reloaders that frequent this site. I am not one of them. Just curious on everyone’s thoughts on reloading and developing loads in hot weather. Is this a waste of time? Will groups shot in cooler weather translate to good groups in hot weather and vice versa...

    Gohunt Maps issues

Anyone use the gohunt mapping app? Just wondering what I am doing wrong. Any time I save a map for offline use it doesn’t bring up any of the layer content. Just the background map, aerial, hybrid, Usgs. Any help would be appreciated

    Utah men sentenced

https://gephardtdaily.com/local/two-southern-utah-men-sentenced-for-defrauding-hunters-leading-canned-cougar-hunts/amp/ When I first read the word “canned”, I was thinking domesticated cougars that were released for the hunt but I believe the crime was that cougars were treed and the hunter...

Deer age, antler growth, and culling

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rokcast/id1473746379?i=1000658031880 @sclancy27 Rather than pollute the season proposal thread I thought I would start a new thread. this podcast is timely it basically speaks to the topic we were discussing and backs up what you were saying. I’m trying...

Points systems - when is it fraud

Wyoming’s lack of any nr random tags in the moose and sheep draw got me thinking, can a point system become fraud? I understand a system doesn’t guarantee anything but there system continues to sell nr points. Unless your a top point holder, your drawing dead, so what is Wyoming selling? If...

Ok what did I do wrong?

I have a 22-250 weatherby vanguard I decided to put a rail on. I put the rail from the photos on the gun. With two different scopes the only way I can get the gun on zero at 100 yards is by shimming the front mounting surface. What the heck am I doing wrong? Wrong rail?

300 rum factory 10 twist heavies?

Anyone have experience loading heavy bullets in a 10 twist factory rem 700 300 ultra? I’m thinking like 215 Bergers or 225 Hornady eldms? I assume COAL will be an issue but I’m also concerned a 10 probably won’t stabilize those bullets also. Is this a waste of time to try?

    Burn boss indicted

https://wildfiretoday.com/2024/02/06/burn-boss-indicted-by-grand-jury/ I bet there are some fire fighters lurking on here. Thoughts? I can’t help but think how things have changed from 35-40 years ago in society. I will always remember the day I learned to drive. I was 8 in 1988. Our...

What elk? a smoke pole decision

This is a live action poll. Like the old video games that were just written scenario based. I finally found a herd. Which one should I shoot with the blunderbuss tomorrow? Weigh in with your opinion before tomorrow morning.

    Worn out brass

Is there a full proof way to tell when your brass is worn out and affecting your reload accuracy? I know loose primer pockets are an indication. Anything else?

    Light cheap accurate rifle

Ok. Here is the criteria. I want a light cheap factory rifle with a short threaded barrel for a suppressor for deer and elk to 400 yards. Caliber is any capable cartridge available. I’m thinking Howa Superlite in 7mm-08 but availability is a problem on those. Could get it in .308 or 6.5 I...

    Help an idiot

Ok. What am I doing wrong? I have a cva hawkens percussion purchased used on gunbroker. When I first got it. It seemed like the hammer was dragging a little and it would take multiple drops of the hammer to go off. I changed out the nipple. Loosened the screw that goes all the way through...
