    Ruger American trigger

No need for smith just get a trigger scale. Use the link Sheltowee gave or search. My wife’s Rugar American trigger adjusted pretty easily. For a inexpensive rifle the trigger was crisp and works well. If uncomfortable tough can ask a smith to adjust.

    243 energy

My wife has taken several deer with her 243 win. One was a spine but all of the others were heart shots. Most dropped one had a short trail. Several does, smaller buck, and one large bodied 8 point. 2 were shot using 100 grain federal factory soft point. The rest were with 85 grain Barnes...

Should I get a tag too?! Alberta Big Horn Sheep hunt

I would get a tag. I would just have a conversation before to be clear if the other hunter is ok doubling up. Who has first shot and other details.

The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

Thank you for sharing your trip with us. I’m glad you enjoyed the experience. Wish it had ended with you getting an elk but sometimes things don’t work out.

    #$%^$ beavers

Check your game regs first. I think most states it’s illegal to shoot a beaver. You can trap them in most states with proper license.

    Fly rod info needed

It depends on what his primary target species would be. I’d suggest a 5 or 6 weight rod for trout. I think the 5 weight is a bit more forgiving to learn on. The 6 weight gives more versatility though if you want to cast streamers or possibly target bass also. I recommend a 9 foot 4 piece...

How many bullets for backpack elk hunt?

I generally take what my rifle holds in the mag (4 usually) plus a holder with 10 rounds. It’s been a very long time since I’ve needed more than 2. But I like having extra in case. Never know if your scope gets bumped and need to re zero. Or maybe things go south.

    Plate ‘em up

Squash soup. Cooked the squash on pellet grill. Then added with onion, garlic, stock and seasonings. Simmered awhile then puréed. Topped with some venison Andoullie. I actually liked it. A good way to use some winter squash.

    Wolverine encounter

Cool that you got a video. Awesome experience. My dad saw one in Northern Idaho once. I told him he should report it but I don’t think he ever did. It’s amazing how far the males will travel to establish a home range.

Ruffed Grouse Strutting This Time Of Year?

I’ve seen blue grouse do it while bear hunting early September. I can’t recap seeing a ruffed grouse donut this time of year.
