A lift does nothing for clearances where tirechains are involved. The issue is clearance from the sidewall of the tire to suspension components and brake lines. I can chain all four on my truck. mtmuley
Laclede chains have been fine for me. I find my needed size and part number on their website then look for them on eBay.
Have a peep behind your front tire. There’s like 1/2” clearance between the tire and steering knuckle on Tacomas. You won’t be able to fit chains up there unless you have...
To check fitment and practice installation spread the chains out in front of the tire with all of the tension adjustments on the outside chain. Drive 3/4 of the way onto the chain then wrap the long end over the tire. Drive 10-20 yards and check lightness.
If you have a lot of extra tag end...
I have a pair of OR gore tex gaiters and I will be getting a set of tirechains prior to leaving for the trip. Do some places in CO require you to have chains in your vehicle during certain times of the year and certain locations? When I lived in CA they required chains in certain places and...
Yessir. I forgot rock sliders too.
Rock sliders were over 50% off like new, topper involved a buy and a trade for a $700 net cost. Chains I converted from another tire size. Premium (Bilstein) front and rear shocks. 6-ply Cooper tires, OEM hub assemblies. Otherwise, lots of perusing FB...
This 100%.
Since their inception Tacoma's haven't had clearance between the steering and suspension components and the inside of the tire. Might be able to squeeze some dinky wire things in there, but those are gonna break quick on unpaved surfaces. Goobering any of those components with some...
Got it definitely tight back there.
I'm gonna assume the wife's 22 4 runner probably is setup similarly not allowing chains upfront. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.
another posibility could be tire socks ,,believe it or not, they work pretty good in snow,,just dont let them freeze to the ground,,if they are snug they may work on the fronts,,ball upper ball joint clearance is tight though.id only run real chains on the rear axle.
Not sure about the newer Tacomas, but I can run chains on the front of my 18 Tundra and I’ve used them on the front of a newer Chevy with similarly tight clearance behind the front tires. You won’t be able to use really heavy V-bar chains, but I bet you’ll be able to find something to fit. You...
One of the Colorado guys can answer this better, but I think the chain requirements are just for commercial vehicles. There might be a tread requirement, but I would assume if your driving all the way from West Virginia your tires will meet that.:ROFLMAO:
@WVmike I know this thread is about clothes(and it looks to me like your good for the season), but I would make sure you have a good set of tirechains in your truck for 2nd season. They've saved me more than 1 tow bill in the past.
Also a +1 for the gaiters.
I meant to respond to one or the other but it accidentally kept both. Repetition aside, I think you get my point. Tons of chatter on Tacoma World on the subject as well.
...Rebuilt suspension w/ upgraded components, incl. lift
Hub assemblies
Exact match topper
Seat covers and upgraded floor mats
Full set tirechains
I did the work myself to make it economical. Everything runs and works like new. Lots of hours invested, but if I wanted to buy an equivalent off...
Not a window sticker.. but extra stupid nonetheless. Gold tirechains. On a spare. That are definitely not sized for that tire. As seen in the parking lot of a sportsman’s warehouse
Before ever messing with chains, why don’t guys actually runs good off road tire? The good aggressive tire is all I have ever needed. Throttle control and knowing how to drive will trump chains any day. I have only one put chains on in all my years. It was for a short 10 foot section of flow ice...
Good luck and be safe! You’ll probably have the woods to yourself! The deer were really feeding hard tonight before dark. I was surprised, it usually takes a few days for them to stick their heads out in the daylight again. I get to help run cattle through the shoot to be vaccinated tomorrow...
