Forget about how accurate your are, I want to know where and how you kill an elk every year! 20 rounds for a one shot one kill deadeye would be a lifetime supply of ammo given even above average success rates. -

He has been around firearms a lot and is a dang good shot (I guess having a big brother in special operations and being trained by a SF sniper instructor gives you good habits). I didn't know about the discounted youth tags. I am definitely looking into those. Thanks everyone for your tips. -

Nice thought as a non-res I’m not sure I’m $800 interested in keeping him occupied. Bear tag at $100 would be ok except knowing my luck he’d get one and then I’d have to deal with a bear. lol. -

My ex (his mom) is on board with him missing some school so he can be in elk camp. He has been asking for years to go and she has always found an excuse to not allow it. Now he has gotten her convinced. My concern is he won't be hunting, just going along. Any suggestions to keep his spirits... -

Morning thermals
Most of the time early in the morning the objective is to get in and glass. If you’re far enough away to be glassing it’s pretty likely the thermals are getting to what you’re glassing. If there is a ridge or valley between you and the animal the thermals are likely not going both up and down... -

Educate me on wall tents
I have a Davis and have owned it for almost 10 years. Except for being a bit dirty you would think it is new. Wall tent stove? Burning nut coal

The parts of those units on the Grand Mesa are like a 4 wheeler convention during elk season. Access is very easy, in fact it is more difficult to get away from trails than to find them. -
