Wiser Precision Quick Stix adapters turn a standard pair of poles into a rock steady bipod. Light and relatively inexpensive at $39. You can run the poles as a bipod without the Quick Clip adapter ($129), but the adapter certainly add stability.
If the 8's still feel tight, you can reduce the extra space in the size 9's using a more supportive and plastic- or carbon-reinforced insole (Superfeet orange, green, etc.) as the original $0.02 foam insoles are thin and take very little space in the boot, plus they do little to keep your heel...
Seems reasonable for any shooter that is not overly-sensitive to recoil. The suppressed noise also is very important to preventing the dreaded flinch when shooting.
Anecdotally, I can say that my Banish Backcountry can on my 30-06 with short 18" barrel allows me to spot shots when I'm at 8-10x...
I would do three things in this order:
1. Review your contract language and determine the terms of refunds for cancellations by the transporter. If the lack of refund constitutes a breach of contract on their end, then:
A. Let the transporter know that you are reporting them to the ADFG Big Game...
I got DG478 and this will be my second trip to Kodiak, did RG480 a few years ago. Happy to share general Kodiak information if you're not familiar with the island, gear, and logistics.
Sage advice from Cornell Cowboy. I concur with all points based on the time I've spent working in the Arctic and camping in other challenging Alaska locales.
One more thing: bring a white(ish) scarf, buff, or rag that you can wave at caribou which sometimes brings them in if they won't come...
Cleaning out some extra dies now that I've invested in a top tier setup. All have been disassembled, cleaned, gently polished all moving/friction parts with a buffing compound, lubed, and reassembled. The polishing makes all of the dies operate more smoothly and with consistent force on the...
Aquaseal SR (shoe repair) is well-suited for leather boot repair. Clean the surface with a toothbrush and alcohol before applying. Need to get off any sealants to get a good bond.
No clue, send a coon up to AK and I'll find out! In all seriousness, I've only shot a couple squirrels so far with this gun. A quality subsonic hollow point would probably do fine for headshots on coons at distances under 20 yds.
I have a Jessie's Girl can on the way for my 10/22 with 16" barrel, but it's already incredibly quiet with subsonic ammo (Winchester Super Suppressed is my fav) and still pretty quiet with supersonic (Aguila Super Extra hollowpoint) so I'm unsure if I'll even put the can on it. The can will...
Good luck! Perhaps bring a fawn distress call as the timing should be right to use it, and it might be a good backup plan if bears are not out on the beaches in plain sight. Just make sure you're aware of your surroundings when you use it in case a bear comes in hot.
I appreciate your perspective and certainly don't dispute your kills with soft tip bullets. My preference and that of my hunting companions is a bonded bullet that holds together to preserve more meat while offering more shot angles. A "screaming" bullet speed as you imply has happened to myself...
Im going to disagree on the latter based on my experience, which is that moose and caribou aren't that difficult to kill... Unless you shoot them in a large bone (e.g. humerus) with a soft point, which then grenades and ruins lots of meat, and requires follow up shots. Corelokt and SST for...
A friend in Petersburg is a great thing to have. While the deer hunting there is very pressured, there are plenty of nearby opportunities just a quick boat ride away and there's always the fishing. Plus a nice escape from Fairbanks in the cold months.
Interested in the Lapponia IIIs you have for sale, but need a few more posts before I'm able to send you a direct message. I think you might be able to initiate a conversation with me.
I had a similar issue with my relatively low round count (200-250) X-bolt 30-06 which would "light strike" with Barnes TTSX 165 and 180gr factory ammo. My gunsmith extended the protrusion of the firing pin by "a few thou" and that appears to have resolved the issue. My guess is that either the...
I've safely swapped the struts on my 2008 Taco several times without a spring compressor using this method: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/front-shock-spring-install-without-spring-compressor.311424/
I suspect this safer method would also work for a 4-runner which I believe shares the same...
is there any new data in the 2025 vs 2024, especially regarding more "modern" bullets? Wondering if I should update from the 2022 manual which I occasionally use for 30-06, 300WSM, and 300 WM.
