Time to retire the Buck 110

Touching up a blade a couple times while butchering an animal doesn't mean there is an issue with the knife. Knives that dull easily also sharpen easily, within seconds even. I'm glad I've never caught the bug to get a "nice" knife. The last thing I need is another compulsion to spend money on!

Weatherby Ammo vs Hendershots or similar in 6.5 RPM

I get that. 120fps ES is a lot. If I miss, I want to know 100% that it was me and not the gun. If it makes you feel any better, the difference in drop at 425 yards with that load at 3225fps vs 3105fps (so the full extreme spread) is 1.7”, so you can be confident it wasn’t the gun.

Weatherby Ammo vs Hendershots or similar in 6.5 RPM

If it worked great before then knowing it has poor ES and SD doesn’t make it shoot any worse. If you’re not shooting over 500 yards then it won’t matter anyway.

    DEI for billionaires

If you want to maximize revenue for the species, then auctions for statewide tags generally bring in 2-3x what a raffle does; sometimes 10x. States intentionally implemented BOTH auction and raffle tags to have one to maximize revenue and one to give everyone a statistical chance. And as...

    DEI for billionaires

I don’t know about other states but this is not true for Colorado. The trophy quality of the unit where the money is spent has nothing to do with it. Projects are submitted to a committee comprised of a broad group of stakeholders and the committee decides which projects to fund with auction and...

Nitriding or something else for surface treatment?

Salt bath nitriding is what you want. Extremely high resistance to corrosion, increase in surface hardness which also increases slickness since it’s so hard, not a “coating” which adds thickness or can ever wear off, and makes every piece jet black in color. The only downside is that the surface...

    Red dot for turkey gun?

I drilled and tapped a blind hole, leaving enough wall thickness for the pressures that shotguns operate at. I don’t remember how much thickness I left at this point but I could measure it if it’s helpful. I tapped it with a plug tap that I modified to have even less lead and I think I ended up...

    CVA accura sight recommendations

You’re on the right track. Globe front sight is great, essentially making it a non-magnified 1x “scoped” weapon from a sight picture standpoint. Non-field adjustable rear peep sight for 0-150 yards. If you want to shoot over 150 then get the adjustable rear sight.

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commissioner confirmation this week

I listened to the whole hearing yesterday. Sichko is an angler and small game hunter, not a big game hunter. It was pointed out that there were 12 other applicants with actual big game hunting experience, but he was selected. The sportsman’s representative on the commission should have a DEEP...

Antero Reservoir to be drained due to drought

What were the stats they mentioned? It would save 5000 acre feet of water, which is the annual consumption of 15,000 houses? That is minuscule compared to the population of Denver. That hardly seems worth the trade off of destroying a fishery and its related recreation for 5-10 years.

RIP Garmin Inreach … iPhones to allow satellite messages in ios18

I was just in New Zealand I and couldn’t get my satellite texting to work no matter what I tried. The demo would work, but it wouldn’t allow me to send or receive. I never figured out the issue. Maybe because AT&T partners with a NZ carrier, and that carrier didn’t support satellite texting...

How do you store reloaded ammo

Nice try, since I’m in the glorious liberal state of Colorado, all mine is stored under lock and key. 😉

    Blackhorn 209 issues.

You don't need to swab with BH209. Blackhorn still fouls; even smokeless powder fouls a barrel.

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commission vote on fur ban

Nice quote in there: “I’ve seen better demonstrations of parliamentary procedure and objectivity in the average 4-H meeting,” he said. “Your actions and behavior yesterday did more to destroy trust than any single action in the history of the CPW or this commission.”

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commission vote on fur ban

I’m sure today is going about the same as yesterday. If there is one thing they know less about than wildlife management, it’s firearms.

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commission vote on fur ban

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commission vote on fur ban

The anti-hunter commissioners kept saying they need specific population data by species, and until they have that they want to ban the harvest of furbearers. Why would that even matter? There is already sound biological data that all furbearer species are stable in Colorado. That would just be...

ACTION ALERT: CPW Commission vote on fur ban

This commission completely disregards biological science in favor of social science. They made no attempt to hide this. They looked CPW in the face and said no, we know better than you biologists, and we'll do as we please.
