You can get up to 2 doe tags in the initial draw then pick up 2 more in the leftover draw if available.
Antelope numbers are way down that is why folks are saying to not use your doe tags.
Look into a reduced price cow elk tag for more meat on your trip.
Shooting 5 antelope isn't that difficult getting 4 doe tags is. There is a random draw for doe antelope tags and the odds for any unit with good access is low. Only the tags not snagged in the draw will go to a leftover list where they can be bought. Any tag that can be purchased on the leftover...
WY antelope doe tags are probably harder to draw than the buck tag now days. Like said above if it's a leftover it's probably private land only or extremely limited public.
It also coincides with when the R3 movement really started to gain momentum. Doe antelope were promoted as the cheap and easy way to get introduced to western hunting.
Doe antelope have saved a handful of my hunting seasons from the meatless category. After 22/23 winter, I don't see that hunt happening in the near future, at least where I used to hunt them. Trying to tag out on 5 antelope sounds pretty exhausting. I'd just focus on the Type 1 tag.
NM - D, E, A, Oryx and Javelina already bagged and tagged.
WY - Draw for cow elk and doe antelope
I hope I get an elk tag in WY and NM but odds are against me. I may only have enough vacation for 1 hunt though. If I get skunked I will head to CO for OTC
So I'm a bit confused by this. This year will be my first year hunting antelope. However, if WY game and fish (the agency tasked with managing the antelope population) believe that there are enough antelope to issue doe/fawn tags why would that make the situation worse?
Part 1.3 - Wyoming
Day 4
We got out a little earlier on day 4 than we had on the previous day. Our goal for the day was to find the group of 17 antelope that we were on as light faded the day before. It took a little while, but I finally located them about 3 miles away from where they had been...
I'm in for Nevada
Bull and cow elk
Buck and doe antelope
Deer.
All I'll apply for.
12 points for Bull, so I'm hoping that should do it for a muzzle loader tag. I debated on applying for elk with my health, but went for it. And my wife didn't accuse me of being crazy for wanting to do it.
I know you didn’t have to answer my questions so thank you. It helps me understand better from your perspective where you are coming from and where you are going. Best of luck-
It will be retained for immediate family. I will manage it to the best of my ability and to the benefit of the wildlife as much as possible. I got 12 buck tags and about 40 doe tags here this year. We have killed 4 bucks that meet OUR criteria which is age class. We have killed 3 does. Killing...
CO is pretty tough for antelope. Most are on the eastern side of the state which is pretty much all private. There are some decent opportunities, but it takes a little research. Cross reference the draw report with units that have some public access. Likely easier to get a rifle mule deer tag...
Applicant after the winter of 2022: "I might just throw my doe tag away if I draw one, the Wyoming antelope herds are in bad shape. WGF should take a pause from doe tags."
Same applicant in 2024: "Our group drew 8 doe tags! Gonna be a meat haul back to (state of your choice) with these new Yeti...
The race was on!
No time to unload my canoe to paddle across. Grabbed my model 70/270 and my day pack. Like a hound on a hot trail, I was off and running.
Splash! I forded the river, frigid fall water. Was deeper than I thought, cold wet nuts. What a way to start a late season doe hunt with...
I'm this bad. I've drawn a few doe antelope in WY but no other random tags in WY, MT, NM, UT, AZ, ID, ME, NH, VT, PA or any raffles. A couple of times I have even been the odd man out at my pref point level in Colorado. If not for the Colorado leftover list and 2nd/3rd choice tags, I'd have...
Tomorrow morning well before the sun rises I will depart for Wyoming with my oldest daughter. She had some tough luck in the draw and came up empty on a buck tag, but she drew a doe tag in a different unit. The 2nd choice application was a bit of an afterthought, and if I believe what I read on...
