Unit 53 New Mexico solo. Bad idea?
I hunted 53 from 2015 to 2023, minus 2018 and 2021 ( kids ) a wind storm in 2022 took out honey holes and lots of trails. My hunting partner and I killed 5 bulls in 53. There are easy to reach places in 53 that one could do solo, but the wilderness areas and the wind damaged areas ( look at... -

It’s pretty tough not to get into elk in 16A, just need to reset the thinking that you need to walk really far to find the elk. Hot tip from last year is to turn off the SxS and walk a bit before you bugle. ( Saw that a few times) I killed a bull that was bedded 400m from a road with a few SxS... -

I have killed two bulls with mechanical heads, and one with a fixed. I switched to a fixed blade due to being able to re-sharpen after a miss. The issue I have with mechanical is they seem to be a one and done. Mechanicals do get the job done, but I’m glade I made the switch to fixed.
