I do specifically for antelope. Last two of the three years I've drawn my antelope doe tags. Went unfilled by choice both years. Whitetails are a different story.
With the winter kill that is going to be a very difficult tag to fill. If you were already going I would give it a few days, otherwise I wouldn’t. I used to hunt there and I don’t bother applying anymore.
That may be best donated this year.
Hunted south side of the mountains from 115 in what has been a good unit and numbers are down considerably. Buck to doe ratio was very low seeing a lot of groups of 12-15 does without a buck and not seeing more than one buck in any group. We hunted hard and put a tag on a nice buck, but it was...

Got a FWP call yesterday while at lunch.
I had to laugh since I used an e-tag for my pronghorn b tag.
"Did you hunt antelope this year?" yes
"Did you harvest a pronghorn?" yes
"How many days did you hunt?" one
"Your district was xxx, did you hunt in this district?" yes
"You had an antelope b...
A couple things, Antelope hunting is just about the easiest western hunt. Influencers pumped the hell out of it and now everyone wants to do it. Maybe reach out to these people making a living on the backs of these animals and ask them to stop making how to apply, how to glass, my antelope...
I added on a pronghorn tag to my Wyoming elk hunt based on the late draw results of the Montana antelope draw. Based on the number of tags, I figured this would be a perfect "typical" western antelope hunt and decided to have my kids (6yo son, 8yo daughter) experience it as their first western...
I had a pretty disappointing big game draw season from January through May. I applied for plenty of tags with reasonable odds, but just didn't turn much up. By the time June rolled around, I had one tag with a two-day season in December, as well as a difficult second choice archery deer tag in...
Hey rj,
16 years straight for my buddies from AZ on pronghorn buck tags, at least 25-30 doe tags each as well.
Not enough opportunity?
Year one:
16 years later, with 14 more in between:
I have never hunted mule deer before. My son will be a senior next year and I want to take him on a lot of trips next year before he heads to the Air Force. I already have a sage grouse hunt in the planning stages and would like to add a few other hunts. One being a mule deer hunt. I know the...
1. I agree and disagree. Theres nuance to every western state. Montana is a very diverse state - regions with little to no public land and regions that are dominated by public land are very different to manage, with federally protected predators in much of the state. Its not at all like the...
Morning of day 2 it took a little longer to get out to the blind than I thought it would. The sun was starting to rise and antelope were already out feeding as I drove to my little water hole. I parked the truck out of sight and took the short walk to the blind. Now to sit and wait. Lots of...
I made my way to @Pucky Freak and together we made the approach. After about 30 minutes we see the first doe walking from left to right. We sat down and I readied my rifle. He ranges her at 200 yards. Pretty soon another doe is following, then two more. I practice my aim from a seated shooting...
The Stalk
We got back to the hotel and organized gear and turned in for the night. I was up getting ready for 15 minutes before the 4:30 am alarm. My dad and son were just a bit slow to get out of bed. We got our stuff together and began the 55 minute drive to our intended spot. We arrived a...
