This is most definitely a long shot but figured it was worth a try...Do any of you SW montana guys know of a couple of older fellas that were out hunting last week?
They beat us to the top of a drainage by coming around the back side of the mountain on horseback. One fella was carrying only a large fanny pack and the other a blaze orange backpack. Both looked to be sporting beards and probably have forgotten more about elk hunting in that area than I'll ever learn..One of the ol' boys was using his rifle in place of a treking pole to help himself get up the slope..Damn impressive to watch.
An hour or two after they went out of sight back over the top, we heard three shots and I would love to hear how their hunt ended up going.
I normally get a bit pissed to see that we got beat to our destination(after we're already 3 miles from the truck) but I really did enjoy having the opportunity to watch these guys hunt and would've loved to have been able to talk to them, as I'd be willing to bet they have some truly epic hunting stories.
