    experince vs gifts?

Sorry I didnt know how to start thread. But the unit I will probably draw is my second choice. I have nine pp points. My question is, judging through a spotting scope. What do you all look at at an antelope? Before I decide to chase and stalk. I know it is one of the easiest hunts, but judging...

    2022 Hunting Adventures Recap

November – My back was still not feeling good. I took H back to Montana and she made a nice 200-yard shot on a bedded doe. I also took my daughter, K on a hunt in Utah for antelope doe. We found some, but I wasn’t able to make it happen. Towards the later part of November, I woke up one...

A little of everything, a lot of fun

The rest of the day presented one more opportunity when I located this buck and a doe. The closest they got was 350 but they were almost always near 400. Given my recent miss, antelope being a small target, considerable wind, and the Buck not getting me overly excited, I decide to pass. I’m...

    2024 dreams and plans

Heading to Mexico in February for some duck hunting and sun on the beach with the wife. We will be going back to NH in June for some trout fishing and hiking in the Presidentials. Haven't come up with a plan for the fall yet, I'm at an in between spot with points, probably just put in for cow...

    2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread

That’s not how Colorado points work. Colorado party app you would end up with the lowest persons residency status and lowest persons points. Ie… non resident 5pp and a resident 1pp. You would be in the draw as a non resident with 1pp.

    2024 Colorado Draw Results Thread

Maybe next year but I might bail and archery 76 or use my wy 9 points 1st with someone who has only one or two from the east to help drive out. If I did either I would grab a Antelope doe tag to hunt on way there or back. I once did that for a hunt in AZ. For most people a days drive is not on...

    FWP being systematically dismantled

Joe, If you’re a fan of the FWP regime of manage the same old way do the same old thing, expect different results, having biologists and regional heads look you in the eye and give their version of the truth, it’d explain a lot. In the past I’ve been basically told, by FWP...

    Wyoming antelope population article

I’ve only hunted one unit for antelope in Wyoming but in the three years I did the new oil and gas roads built were definitely bad for survival. Year one it was pretty easy for me to park on a main road and walk just out of sight and get into antelope, the second year a gravel road went exactly...

Extreme hunting pressure in region 7.

Elk numbers arent up universally in western Mt. At all. In the last 20/30 years - theres a lot of sw montana thats had the elk numbers drop a lot. If anything the elk hunting has trended way down there too. Way better odds of harvest going east of billings for rifle season and chance shooting a...

Critique my WY Pronghorn NON-resident tag application

Definitely wait, and really pick apart the draw odds and tag quotas for each unit. Best of luck in the draw. I cashed in my points last year so it will be a few before I hunt pronghorn in Wyoming again.

    Youth hunting frustrations

Agreed. I’m just frustrated that as an Utah resident youth, buying an OTC big game cow, doe, etc tag is basically non-existent.

    Speed goats vs match bullets?

ELD-Ms worked fine this year on antelope buck, and antelope doe. It also did the trick for sure on oryx (a little bit larger goat) :)

    23 wyoming results

Got what I wanted. I went light this year, a cow elk, doe antelope, and doe whitetail. I’ve been enjoying general elk and deer the last few years, so I’m happy to stick with that this year.

CO 2023 Muzzleloader Pronghorn Antelope Hunt

Today was the opener of the Colorado Muzzleloader Pronghorn season. This is only my 3rd ever Pronghorn hunt, all of which have been with the good ol' smoke pole. I made it out to the unit late yesterday evening, with only about 45 minutes to scout before sunset. I made the most of it and went to...

Hammer Bullets - what makes them so great?

I'm late to the game here, but will share my experience with the 267 gr HHT out of my 338 RUM this past season. Took 4 animals (two antlerless elk, one whitetail buck, and doe antelope) all between 400 and 420 yards. All were pass throughs. At that distance, I can't say they worked better than...

Actual Weight of Meat - Can we be honest?

I trimmed pretty heavily this year compared to normal and it was 53#trim to 460# start. So about 11.5%. I normally trim much less and keep more fat on/take less meat but in the spirit of being quicker and knowing that I was turning it into dog food, I felt good with that. Based on some of...
