I would suggest a gas piston operated AR-15 from Sig or HK. But that is going well beyond $1k. But there are several direct impingement AR-15 that are well under $1k that are very nice. You will get the best deal at a local gun show. Most AR's are chambered for 5.56 X 45mm or .223 these days... -

In the Sig Sauer 516 piston AR-15. You know since all of my other rifles are bolt action the first thought that came to mind when I first took this thing to the range was "Holy sh%t'! You could waste a whole lotta people in a hurry with this thing. Hell a whole lot of anything for that matter... -

I tend to agree 50%. The other 50% was on bullet selection. I'm no ballistic scientist but the rifle just seemed to favor those 200gr A frames. If you asked me why I couldn't tell you. Kinda like the way I prefer blonds over brunettes lol! -

Thanks for all of the advice. It is valuable to me. That .300 ammo in the picture is the only thing I've ever put through that WM. It's definitely time to try some different ammo. At Bass pro shops my only three choices are Winchester, Federal and Core-Lokt 180g and 165g. And I'm sure that out... -

Mystery solved. My wife came clean and admitted that while she was organizing our walk in closet that the WM fell off the shelf and hit the floor. It was in the soft case but never the less hit the hard wood floor. I said next time don't touch my sheet. -
