After 36 years of applying, I finally drew a mi bull tag this year. December hunt area x and I. I’ve been guiding elk hunts since I was 14 and now it’s my turn.
Kind of late , but finally finished up load work on this 280 AI. 64.0 grains of h4831sc , 143 hammer hunter gave me 1/2 inch groups and 3180 fps on the chrono. A couple antelope and three whitetails later I am sold on this combination.
I antelope hunted a unit that had leftover cow tags available , I didn't buy one. About three days int my hunt I had a cow standing in camp in between my tent and my cooler....Kicked self in a@@ the rest of the week.
Old habits are tough to break and I spent enough time in SE AK to always vacuum pack a change of base layers and socks. Also a basic fire-starting kit and some tp. That stuff is more valuable than gold in the right situations....
I'm relatively new to hammers. I set up a new rifle last summer in 280ai shooting berger 168s. Killed 2 deer and four antelope and the results were devastating , most destructive meat damaging bullet I have ever shot. Switched to hammers for the next three deer. Just as dead , all drt , all pass...
No , no tracking necessary....on the 275 lung shot the main exit was slightly behind shoulder , but shrapnel grenaded into the off shoulder...Im not writing off Bergers as a hunting bullet as I think they would be a great elk / moose bullet , just a little destructive on smaller game. I would...
