.280 ACKLEY IMPROVED
Kind of late , but finally finished up load work on this 280 AI. 64.0 grains of h4831sc , 143 hammer hunter gave me 1/2 inch groups and 3180 fps on the chrono. A couple antelope and three whitetails later I am sold on this combination.- Kotimaki

I antelope hunted a unit that had leftover cow tags available , I didn't buy one. About three days int my hunt I had a cow standing in camp in between my tent and my cooler....Kicked self in a@@ the rest of the week. -

Vacuum Seal
Old habits are tough to break and I spent enough time in SE AK to always vacuum pack a change of base layers and socks. Also a basic fire-starting kit and some tp. That stuff is more valuable than gold in the right situations....- Kotimaki

WY Mud Roads
Speaking from experience , driving in WY mud is much like driving in Northern MI freezing rain only it also sticks to everything. Best to avoid it. -
Hammer bullets?
I'm relatively new to hammers. I set up a new rifle last summer in 280ai shooting berger 168s. Killed 2 deer and four antelope and the results were devastating , most destructive meat damaging bullet I have ever shot. Switched to hammers for the next three deer. No , no tracking necessary....on the 275 lung shot the main exit was slightly behind shoulder , but shrapnel grenaded into the off shoulder...Im not writing off Bergers as a hunting bullet as I think they would be a great elk / moose bullet , just a little destructive on smaller game. OK , time for an update. I settled on 168 berger classics at 2885 , sub 1/2 moa. I bedded the recoil lug and back of action and that solved the heat induced 3rd round flier. Ordered a turret and tested drops out to 500 and all was well. Took the rifle out for its maiden voyage on a northern MI...- Kotimaki

Any Browning BAR owners out here?
I have a first year BAR in 30/06 that was my dads rifle. Its the most amazing firearm that I own. It shoots lights out with the load I worked up for it , but also consistently with anything you throw in it. Take a 220rn , 180 core lokt , 150 federal and any other couple odd rounds you can find... -

How the heck do I carry a 100+ lb moose quarter?
