Federal .308 168 gr. Berger hybrid hunter for elk

Used them in 2019 with good results. Great accuracy in my 308 and took two cow elk at approximately 300yds for each. Bergers are deadly.

7mm Remington Magnum 155gr Federal Terminal Ascent

I used the TA in my .308 last year and had good accuracy and good success. Two hits on a cow elk at 350yds. One passed thru and the other stopped in the far hide. Perfect mushroom like an AB. No complaints.

    Montana General season

If your goal is a bull, then your odds are much lower in rifle season. If you're simply looking to fill your tag and you're good with a fat cow, then get your butt out there. @MNJared , I would caution you against hunting the timbered spot late in the season as most of the elk will move down...

    BHA Rendezvous 2020

Tickets are bought and we are just trying to finalize the rest of the details. We are flying in for sure. I can afford to not drive 18hrs each way. My buddy and i are trying to decide on where to stay and getting a car.

    Pine ridge Nebraska turkey hunting

If you go early, or even in April, plan for snow and cold. Temps could be 10-90 and you may see snow and winds. One year, I tucked tail and left early to avoid getting 12" of snow and being snowed in. You will see people occasionally, but there is a ton of room to roam.

Broadhead for elk, deer and pronghorn

"but they look pretty primitive..." Check out youtube where Randy shoots a Henry Mtn's Bison with that primitive broadhead. If you want to pick up the lastest issue of bowhunter magazine and go through all the new broadhead offerings and look for the...

    308 Bullet Selection (factory loads)

I tested 3 of that list and settled on the Nosler 165g Accubond. Excellent bullet that has taken an elk each of the last 4 years. Of the 4, I got pass-throughs on 2 and 2 I recovered the bullet. They performed excellently both ways. I will be testing the 178 ELD-X just for testing purposes...

Synthetic vs merino wool base layers

I personally own Kuiu, Icebreaker, BlackOvis(C4E) and smartwool. Each has their pluses and minuses. NO matter what though, merino is my go to base layer year round. Everything I've read and heard says First Lite is very good. I've thought about trying it out, but haven't found the need yet...

    Backpack hunting boot input

I'm still using Asolo's http://www.asolo-usa.com/catalog/product/view/id/5217/s/powermatic-200-gv-mens-dark-graphite/category/54/ They are going on year 3 or 4 with close to 200 miles on them. A quick retreat keeps them waterproof and they fit me well. Remember that boots are like jeans. Lots...

    Floorless Tipi vs. Tent

This again is a non-issue if you don't set up your tent where water pools. I've been camping for decades and never had my tent sitting in a pool of water. A buddy had a similar thing happen and was surrounded by water. It was poor site choice for sure and the ground was dished out. Some people...

    Gravity water filtration

I've been doing backcountry travel for 20+ years. Water in northern MN needs to be filtered with all the beaver and other activity. We always used pumps. I've got an MSR sweetwater pump that works great. I switched to a Katadyn gravity filter when it came out, but the hiker filter cartridge...

wyoming unit 68 n.w. of dubois

Yep, all of the above and grizzly bears. Not sure what kind of "decent scoop" you're looking for. Did you draw a General tag or the type 9?

    Generator or new cooler

Have you even considered how much power you use and how much power you need? A small 400 watt inverter connected to your batteries should run everything but the coffee pot. A big buddy heater will heat you out of that trailer and condensation should be easy to minimize with a roof vent. If...

    Gravity water filtration

If you've got ample water to fill the bag, they are amazing. I use a sawyer gravity filtration system as long as we have a place to fill water bags. If you're getting water from a seep or tiny spring, you'll spend more time filling a bag then you would if you would've pumped.

floorless shelter and bugs during archery season?

I hunted Idaho last season in the Beaverhead zone. We stayed in the Cimmaron with no issues. Bugs get in and they get out. We didn't have any mosquitos so that helped. The rest of the little flying bugs hang out in the top cone until you open the zipper. You could stake it tight to the ground...
