Alright I have an update, he got the rifle out and done an inspection. According to him the barrel amd the chamber and the bolt including the bolt face is clean. He cant find any indication of anything in the chamber or on the bolt face. The barrel was clean minus typical carbon. We were also...- DamascusSteel

The rifle is a couple years old probably 5 years ish old, with 80 to 100 rounds through it. I probably suspect something was left in from the cleaning- DamascusSteel

What is this on my brass?
Has anyone encountered this on once fired brass? This is from my dad's 280AI once fired factory ammo brass, its on both Hornady and Nosler brass. It's a hard tar like substance, ive never seen it on any of my brass before. Should I scrap this brass or try and tumble it till its gone? I dont want...- DamascusSteel

I've been looking into the 284 Win, I dont know much about it. But it seems to bridge the gap between 7mm-08 and 280 AI really nice. Velocities aren't much lower in the 284 win at the 150 -160 gr. Projectiles. This might be a cartridge im into- DamascusSteel

Those are excellent groups, I'm starting to lean towards the 7mm-08 but I still have plenty of time to make a decision. My dad has a 280 AI that I was trying to do load development for until my job moved me.- DamascusSteel
