Good luck asking questions on HT, I have found most people on here are sarcastic assholes who either live in Wyoming, or have private property they hunt and don't have to look for public land that isn't overrun with other hunters or outfitters. Personally, id save my points and hunt the west...
We didn't end up applying for 113, had a WGFD tell me that an outfitter who has private access to the State land, drives all of the roads, making it difficult on the people who have to hoof it.
I’ve been bowhunting for elk before in the southern portion of it, but mostly figured once I drew the tag, I could decide to book a guide or not. With so few tags, I’m sure I could get an outfitter lined up.
I currently have 25 sheep points in Wyoming. As a non resident, I pretty much need to use a guide as most of the areas that I have a shot of drawing are mostly wilderness, except for unit 5. I would love advice on preferred guides, units to consider, and whether or not hunting unit 5 as a DIY...
I recently won a whitetail hunt on a game ranch in Texas and it’s not really my thing. It has a value of $12k and can be used to take a giant whitetail or several other exotics. Would love to trade it for an elk hunt or an antelope hunt, possibly in NM. PM me if you are interested.
No, you are correct, all of the western states are guilty of price gouging in my opinion. New Mexico is at least fair to everyone as far as the draw goes, no point system, luck of the draw.
No, you are right it doesn’t, but being wealthy shouldn’t mean you have a better chance at drawing a tag either, but that is the direction WGFD seems to be going.
No offense taken! That’s why I put this out there, to see what others think. I personally started buying the points when WGFD started offering them for $7 as a purchase only, no chance of drawing. The odds back then were probably better than they are now, but with the wilderness law and guide...
I have given up on having nonresident hunting available for my son. Every state is getting more and more difficult to draw for nonresidents, not to mention the extremely high tag fees that continue to escalate. Fortunately for him, he now resides in Arizona and might get opportunities to hunt...
Thanks for all your thoughts on this, the only fair way to issue sheep tags is through a random drawing, no preference points, bonus points, or anything else, pure luck of the draw. But the States that instituted the pay for a point system now have grown accustomed to the millions of dollars of...
Does anyone recall how much a sheep tag was for a nonresident back in 2000? I started buying points back then and are curious how much it has went up since I began this journey. Not that it will do any good, but I am going to try to attend the Casper meeting via Zoom April 17 and want to submit...
