No, you are correct, all of the western states are guilty of price gouging in my opinion. New Mexico is at least fair to everyone as far as the draw goes, no point system, luck of the draw.
No, you are right it doesn’t, but being wealthy shouldn’t mean you have a better chance at drawing a tag either, but that is the direction WGFD seems to be going.
No offense taken! That’s why I put this out there, to see what others think. I personally started buying the points when WGFD started offering them for $7 as a purchase only, no chance of drawing. The odds back then were probably better than they are now, but with the wilderness law and guide...
I have given up on having nonresident hunting available for my son. Every state is getting more and more difficult to draw for nonresidents, not to mention the extremely high tag fees that continue to escalate. Fortunately for him, he now resides in Arizona and might get opportunities to hunt...
Thanks for all your thoughts on this, the only fair way to issue sheep tags is through a random drawing, no preference points, bonus points, or anything else, pure luck of the draw. But the States that instituted the pay for a point system now have grown accustomed to the millions of dollars of...
Does anyone recall how much a sheep tag was for a nonresident back in 2000? I started buying points back then and are curious how much it has went up since I began this journey. Not that it will do any good, but I am going to try to attend the Casper meeting via Zoom April 17 and want to submit...
I probably needed to be a little clearer, we hunted the last three days of season and only saw a few does. We had a deer hunt scheduled on October 15th, so we antelope hunted Oct 12-14, east of the highway then west for deer.
I am not that guy, it’s a limited quota area, so only so many tags to go around. Difficult access which will scare most road hunters away. I just want to feel like I have a chance to put my buddy on an average buck and not end up like our hunt in Unit 15 did, never seeing a buck on public, after...
How did your hunt go? Thinking about trying out 113 in the fall. Talked to both WGFD and Wyoming Highway Patrol and figured out a way into the northwestern block of BLM.
My buddy and I are deer hunting on a ranch near Sheridan starting October 15 and we’re thinking about getting tags for 113 as unit 109 where we deer hunt has been difficult at best to find antelope on public ground. Called a game warden that handles unit 113 and he felt it would be a great...
I don't want to collect points, but my buddies only have 1 point, so I may need to wait until we can average what it will take to draw. Then, we'll need to figure out where to go that doesn't have the elk locked up in the wilderness areas.
I looked at the draw odds for area 12, and they have 1 nonresident tag shown as being available in the draw, surprised the others aren't figured out yet.
Now that they cut the quota for us nonresidents, how do we know how many tags are going to be going to nonresidents in Area 5? It is probably the only legitimate chance I have to draw a tag with 23 points. Might have been able to get one had they not changed the quota for a couple years, but...
Neither, just turned 61, and NOT very lucky! I figure the way the odds of getting a tag are going, I may draw one more elk tag in WY before I can no longer hunt. I want to have a good hunt and hope to come back with a bull, but not being allowed into the wilderness is a real bummer at times...
