    Archery Equipment Advice

This year I planned on helping my father with the muzzleloader elk tag he was expected to draw and go OTC for myself. Unfortunately, he had a surprise brain tumor and passed away during application season. After failing to pull a tag in the draw, I’ve decided to go OTC archery. This is a trip...

Beaver Hunting with a Deer Rifle in the Ruby Mountains in Nevada?

I floated in for my turkey last year. Constantly saw beavers while scouting and decided to take one home after shooting my bird. Not sure I'd want to deal with deer and a beaver at the same time though.

    New Zealand in May

Congrats on the hunt. I started looking into a diy New Zealand trip but the firearm importation scared me off. My understanding was you need to know a New Zealand resident to vouch for you and to store the gun while not hunting with it. I would love to hear about how that process went for you.

    T-Satellite - Any Experience?

I switched to T-Mobile a few weeks ago and was able to use T-satellite on my last hunt. On my galaxy s25 it worked decently, I think there was 2 occasions where it said message failed to send but I would just hit resend and it would work. Its not as fast a traditional texting but it worked...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

This is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, thank you! This advice is already getting me excited for my future hunts. My cow calls are not that great. The same way I was hearing the imperfect bugles this year, last year during rifle season I got on a herd of cows that was very...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

Absolutely! Im always open to advise on how to be a better hunter. There was multiple occasions during this hunt where I had elk close and considered starting a post asking for advice but decided that was not the time to be doing that. However at this time I'd love to hear others thoughts on...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

At one point I was lined up for the shot but I was shaking too much from the cold and adrenaline. I didn't feel comfortable taking a shot I wasn't 100% confident about.

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

Day 7 (Friday) Slept in the truck. At dawn I woke to sniffing at the tailgate — heart pounding, thinking of a hunter’s story about a bear pawing and sniffing his tent. With my pistol in the cab, I primed the muzzleloader, peeked out… and saw a cow licking my truck. A dozen cattle scattered when...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

Day 5 (Wednesday) I woke up damp but not cold, cooked breakfast, and heard bugles faintly in the distance. At first light I glassed a cow and two spikes 50 yards from my tent, below a cliff. I hiked to the meadow and I settled in for an all day sit, determined to not miss a big herd moving...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

Day 2 (Sunday) I hiked in at shooting light while my dad had coffee in camp. The weather turned again. Fog and mist with bulls bugling below. At the meadow, I bugled and immediately got cut off by a pissed off bull. Deep, raspy, and chuckles at the end. Through the fog, I could barely make out...

    First Bull, Colorado Muzzleloader

I’ve been “hunting elk” since I was 12, though really it was just a bull tag after deer season or the occasional cow tag. Early years it was road hunting with my uncle. Later, my dad would join us and tell stories of way back when he was a kid and he and my grandpa would backpack into the...

    Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

Beautiful bird! How do you keep the fan displayed without touching it?

    Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

i would love to hear some input on this bird. My buddy was talking about a tom that practically had a manbun coming from his chest. Couple hours later I spotted him. Unfortunately we both are already filled out and don't have anyone we want to share the spot with. With my limited experience...

Lever Guns, what would you choose & why?

I have a marlin SBL in 45-70 with a VX-Freedom 1.5-4 and it's one of my more accurate short range guns. It would be my only hunting rifle if the wind didn't affect it so much and didn't have such severe drop. Here is a 3 shot group at 200 yards. Sighted in for 3 inches high at 100.

    Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

Dang I should've thought about that. Too much adrenaline for my brain to work I suppose. I appreciate the tips.
