Just submitted my draw application here in NM for elk, deer, oryx, sheep, and pronghorn. Mostly bowhunts. Im starting to get real antsy about getting out there and just wanted to see what everyone was doing to prepare for this season? Anyone getting in shape, trying out a new scouting method...
Hope my bit of beta helped out! It was definitely hard, my hunt came down to the last minute where we set up an ambush above a small wallow and she came running up about an hour before sunset on our last day. Sure you can tell with my pitch black photo after she finally fell after dark! Fun pack...
Just to follow up, I ended up buying Elk Hunting the West by Mike Eastman and Backcountry Bowhunting by Cam Hanes, both were useful foundations for giving me an idea of what I needed to do when I got out there. Spending the whole week following a herd, though, was really the learning...

Absolutely! I'm planning on making a few trips out here this summer. Conveniently, the unit is right next to an awesome rock climbing crag I can split my time at. I'll take a look into the books, and maybe can find some videos of elk to put on while working form home haha - must be worth something?
