My season will start next weekend with a rifle hunt in GMU 009 here in CO and then soon after we will head up to 26 for elk/deer camp. We do a lot of frozen meal prep ahead of time and it works great. Gives us a bunch of "frozen mass" in the cooler and minimizes clean up to a large degree. This year my contributions to meal time will be pork carnitas, elkburger hleper/homemade mac n cheese and a load of bear sausage gravy and biscuits. I am finishing all of that up today so I am not last minuting it. What are your chow plans and what is the one thing that really lets you know it is about time ?

When the dove start to show up, I know that dove season is near, which usually means big game hunting is shortly behind.

Another good one is when we're harvesting, I know hunting season is nearby.

Btw stir fry is my favorite to freeze and reheat. Idk why but it always comes out pretty good

Just pulled the last package of cranes out of the freezer to make some bbq pulled crane for sandwiches. Makes a nice frozen camp dinner.

I know it’s almost time when the geese start feeding in the fields and the air gets that little nip to it.

Four weeks to go before I head out to Colorado for 3rd rifle mulie. I have most of my meals prepped in vacuum seal bags in the freezer already. Pulled pork, Taco meat, pasta fagioli, Antelope Posole Verde and chili. I have to make up some breakfast burritos yet. I will pre-make my lunches here the night before i leave. Yesterday was range day, double checking the load i worked up for my 7mm08 and its right on the money. I know its getting time when my basement starts to look like a hunting gear yard sale. Started to pull stuff out, going through it and staging.

Yeah, that "right before you leave" lay out is awesome. I still use a list CPO gave me before my first elk hunt to double check I didn't get stupid and forget something. Added to my packing list yesterday by picking up a Stihl MS251 to replace the Poulan that gave up the ghost last year on the mountain ;)

I have a similar list i made years ago that keeps me from forgetting the important stuff. If you're around the 8th or 9th of November, ill be passing through, I'd be up for a bite and a beer.

I should be in town. Just let me know when it gets close and we will make it happen.

Whatever you do don’t vacuum package and freeze anything with sour cream as a ingredient. Mule deer stroganoff is why Cushman mentioned farting it our thread. It went down good but with awful consequences.

Why deer camp, shoot one of those B&C bucks in your yard!

Wish I could....heck I could just walk up and shank one if not for the "Oh, look at the cute lil deers!!" crowd running around my hood :)
