Hi all,

I moved to Casper, WY last September. Unfortunately, I can’t put in for the resident draw this year because I haven’t hit my 1 year mark.

What can I expect come September as far as general/left over tags? Any chance I can get a cow tag to fill the freezer?

Thanks in advance.

There are numerous reduced price cow tags all over the state. A lot of them are dealing with private land. Over the counter first come. Check your regs. Type 6 or 8.

Just buy a general tag over the counter in September. Plenty of areas to hunt with that. You can also always get a Type 8 cow tag for several different areas. That's in addition to your general tag.

Don't forget to put in for HMA slips, a few good ones available with a General tag for both deer and elk.

Very good opportunities on general tags, especially for Whitetail later in the season if you strike out on mulies.

Should be able to fill the freezer, plenty of options after your year is up, sounds like sept will be a year ? Welcome to Wyoming and good luck this fall!!

Like Cornell said, buy your general tags in September for elk and deer. General units in wyoming can be better then a lot of draw units in other states. You should have no problem chasing bulls, cows, and deer. You'll have to wait for pronghorn though.

I moved to Wyoming three years ago. I was in the same boat. If you want more than your general otc elk tag that you’ll be able to buy this fall you can apply for a leftover reduced cow tags as a non resident. There are a handful of units with decent odds to draw. By the time the type 6/7 seasons role around you’ll be a resident and can access wilderness areas, which is where some of the easier draw type 6/7 units are located. If you’d like some suggestions you can message me.

Just grab General and hunt region G OTC while laughing at NR's that cant draw with 11 points. Good luck!
