A lot of my hunting is done in 3 day blocks. One day to sweep a big area to look for tracks or indicators. The second day is to focus on what I found the first day. By the third day, I follow my hunches and usually have an encounter, get a shot or something changed weather wise or a predator and I have to start the sequence over. Sometimes they just seem to get tired of the smell of their own feet and they move overnight to a differant area. It's usually within 2-3 miles but it's a new search. I often spend the first week just scanning areas to pick up the trends and figure out where they are and where they aren't. Some years I struggle and somehow end up about 1-2 days behind them everywhere I go. 2018 was one of those years. Thirty days in the field, never took the safety off and only got close to one elk. I also never heard a shot fired but cut day old tracks everywhere I went. It happens!!
