What kind of stones?

I'm going to be fishing the Blackfoot River and upper Rock Creek towards the end of the month.

What are the preferred stonefly and golden stonefly patterns? Madam X? Clarks' Stone? Stimulators?

From what info I've been able to find, wade fishing the Blackfoot is best near River Junction?

I'm a terrible fly fisherman and tend to prefer stimulators (later in the season I really like the rubber legged version) for my attractor pattern. Maybe check with Grizzly Hackle Flyshop or another Missoula shop.

I should add that many stream flows are 1/2 of what they should be currently and snowpack is less than 30% of normal so be prepared for low flows

Stimulators should work. If you like foam the chubby chernobyl is a good one. I like to use smaller sizes since the stones don't run huge on the Blackfoot.

Check a local fly shop or sportsmans warehouse to see what flies are working. Here is one of many photos taken of a giant stone hatching.
