What are your highly educated opinions on tech in hunting?

Did they? I'm not sure I'm buying that
If you sight both in for a max of 3" or 4" high impact, you can be off with guessing distance and still make impacts.

At 500 youll end up with significantly less (like feet less) drop, to the point if you held for 400 you probably still have a clean kill depending on the animal which is certainly not true for 308. Estimating the range and knowing where to hold over mattered a lot then.

Maybe not doubled but basically the same drop at 500 that the other rifle has at 300/350.

Curious - is a 257 weatherby the same thing?

Years ago, long before rangefinders and scopes - a hot fast magnum extended your effective range a lot.
I'm not tracking?
I’m sure throughout history these conundrums played out from generation to generation. The old generation of Egyptians probably argued with the new skool generation of Egyptians if it was ethical to use alien labor and technology to build the pyramids.

My only shot over 400 was a hold over with a 308. There's about 20-25% difference, but I get the point you're trying to make.

I think extensive map and compass and being able to kill a wabbit in front of a live audience, with a home made atlatl ,should be considered in all future hunter safety courses!
