Sad deal. Surprised you don't hear about that happening more often. It also makes me wonder what Russian healthcare is like.

Almost happened to me with a cow elk in MT. Grill guard saved my life, pushed her out just far enough to where the back of her head smashed into the windshield of my pickup, and she went down the drivers side. Her head put a fist sized hole in the window. I hit her in the rear and she flipped back onto my hood. No time to react or even touch the brakes. Hear horror stories of them ending up in the cab. Sad story.

There is a motel I would always stay at when working in a particular area. Probably stayed there 50 weeks or more over 25 or so years and got to know the owner and his family pretty well. One day I checked in and he wasn't his usual jolly self. turned out a couple that were good friends of his and his wife had just been killed the night before, when they hit a five-point bull just out of town.

Pretty sad.

I don't know about Russia but in some of those Northern Europe and Scandinavian countries what they call Elk are what we call Moose. Not that it makes any difference if one comes smashing through the windshield.

No, they definitely mean Alces alces (moose), and not Cervus canadensis (wapiti). Makes more sense why it was a fatal wreck.
