Anyone here use the Weaver Converta scope mounts on their Rem 870? I have an older Wingmaster with a smooth bore 28" barrel and Modified choke. It shoots Foster (rifled) slugs just fine, but I'd I'd like to add a scope or red dot for accuracy. Where I hunt in MN we are not allowed rifles. I could use my Muzzleloader during the regular firearm season in lieu of a shot gun, but I love my 870.

Any pros/cons to this system? How about other scope mount systems? I'm trying to avoid the drilling/tapping route.

IMO, the best way to mount a scope on a shotgun is to buy a barrel with a cantilever mount. I have two set up this way. It works. Also, having the scope attached to the barrel keeps it closer to being sighted in if/when you swap barrels. Then you have the added bonus of most cantilevered barrels being rifled, which would allow you to shoot sabots. I've had good luck both with Remington and Hastings barrels.
