My .284 Win seems to love VV150 with F210 primers. I have several very accurate hunting loads with this powder/primer combo using different bullets. Granted, these are lighter weight bullets for deer-size critters, mostly. In the 140gn range, but yes, my experience has been very positive using VV150 and standard large rifle primers, but certainly in lighter loads than you're talking about.
