Only 3 weeks til the Vernon rifle opener. I haven't been this excited since the day before sheep season. After 10 years I get a chance to hunt big mule deer. Any info would be appreciated.
Yes, I'm a NR. I'm in the military and a resident to nowhere. for all those residents, this is most likely the only time I will be able to hunt Vernon. If I'm 40 now and it took me 10 yrs I won't problably be able to draw again until I'm 55. I think your bucks are safe

If this is the Vernon unit in UT, I've seen some quite nice bucks come out of there. Most folks hunt the USFS just out of town. There's deer there, but don't be afraid to head west of there and try the mtns west of Erikson Pass. Though not as many deer, I've seen some nice ones holed up in the buck brush about 3/4 up to the tops of the peaks. I'd suggest you call both the USFS and BLM and find out where the cattle are during the hunt. At least on the mtns near town they run them on a rotation. That would help you narrow down places to look. Good luck!
