I was getting my gear ready this AM for an epic solo rip into the backcountry to scout for an upcoming archery antelope hunt, and figured I'd share some of my expert gear knowledge with the rest of you amateurs.

When I'm covering country in search of master vantage points and key features, I like to be comfortable and getting good sleep is essential.

Left to right, the first thing is a green sleep-pad, accordion style, and made of nice cushiony foam. It's broken in - which is important. It's older than my adult kids. I suggest geting the long ones so your feet don't get cold at night.

Moving right, the little brown bag holds my $59 sportsman's warehouse cot. It's a little one, and I'm not sure who the true manufacturer is because most the ones I see are all the same, just a different brand. It's kind of a piece of shit but it keeps me off the ground, it's short and fits inside the bed of my truck and inside my favorite minimalist tent.

Next is my tent, which, unfortunately (like most killer gear) - has been discontinued for decades. Don't let the ripped up Hilleberg Akto tent bag fool you, inside is a premium Kelty Canyon Ridge (mid-90s era). Mine's purple but I've seen other ones on Ebay in different colors. You can set this up in 30 seconds and can fit a full-size cot in it, breaths well, and if somebody steals it - no big deal. It's one of those things people are not likely to steal if they see your camp, it could even keep them from peeking inside, as it would lead one to think nothing expensive could be stashed inside. I got it wet a few years ago and then hung it in a friend's garage for week - bad idea. It just recently no longer smells like cat litter.

Moving on is my sleeping bag, it's my summer road scouting bag made by Mountain Hardware. The synthetic loft is shot, but it's cozy in the summer if I keep it unzipped. The pillow in that bag is one my wife didn't like so I threw that in there.

Sitting on the floor below the sleep system is my fold-up camp chair. I like to be able to sit by my camp and be comfortable. It's much more comfortable that sitting on a big Yeti cooler (which i keep locked inside my truck). I'm not sure what brand it is, but I got it at a work summer party. It's a BIG chair so I refer to that one as Wyeth - aptly named after a big fat obnoxious douchebag I used to work with at that previous job 15 years ago when I got the chair.

That's a wrap on my sleep system write up. Off to scout for my upcoming thrilling bow-hunt.IMG_4971.jpeg

Tell us you dye your gray hair that nice dark color without telling us….!?

G’Luck on the adventure.

Please provide an in-depth review of your "kill kit" next.
Maybe you'll have time from your Master Vantage after grabbing vert while you're dumping heat.
