Trapping Thread 2025/2026

Hey I can finally contribute! Caught 12-14 beavers for nuisance work this fall before this thread was started. While deer hunting noticed a fisher track 2-3 days ago and nailed this female one today

9 coons today and my son got his first beaver. It was in a pocket set made for mink with a 1.5. Let’s just say handling a live 47 pound Beaver in a rock bottom creek with about 10” of water was interesting

9 coons 2 possum and a muskrat in a mink set. No mink yet

7 raccoons and 3 possum this weekend. 46 for the year on raccoons.

Wolves come back. Had track leading right to a snare only to have it knocked down talk about range of emotions. Set some more snares for them. One of these days I’ll get lucky

Should have taken photos, but had an infestation get into my pellet grill and flat top a couple weeks ago. Caught 12 mice in a week. Still hard to cook on them after the deep cleanings.

That’s the extent of the trapping I do anymore lol.

Had a miss this morning. Traps had gotten set off by a rabbit or packrat overnight. He'll be back.

Scouted a new road line tonight. Looks like about 20 new sets going in this weekend

I got a late start to the year but I’m finally on the board with something other than a skunk. Big male otter.

Well Friday was interesting. Had a raccoon not quite in the catch pole. My son went to adjust it and it got out ran toward us. Damn thing bit me on the ankle. Not 100% sure it wasn’t through the pants but it drew blood. Dr sent me to the ER and I had to start the rabies shots. I have 3 more to get. But he picked up 5 raccoons that morning and 2 more today. I think he’s up to 54 now. He got some more sets in today and 4 predator sets in. Hoping he connects with those

Well below zero this morning, but my daughter wanted to join me checking traps. She was rewarded with an otter and is super excited that she gets to put her own tag on this one.

So how’s that work? You set the trap and they put there tag on it?

I’ll let them tag it if they are actively out with me helping check the traps. Otherwise, I tag it.

In MN a licensed trapper can check/tend traps for another licensed trapper. Both of my kids have lifetime licenses and have their otter tags. They also have to make the trip to register their otters in person with me.
