Hey guy here are some pics from my small trapline this year.I dont longline anymore due to gas prices and two young ones at home but I set a few traps within a short distance from home to make some money for my tag out west next year and to get my son out and spend some time with him since the new baby gets alot of the wife and mine attention.
The first pic is some muskrats from a close by sleugh, they are hard to find in numbers this year due to the drought. The pic of the beaver I caught in a mink set in a feeder stream that I caught in a 160 body grip he weight 38# not a big one by anymeans but not a small one either. The 3rd and last pic is from this morning with a couple coon I picked up in pocket sets they are working the creeks pretty hard right now.any how for just dabbling at it here and there the catch this year so far is
64 muskrat
6 coon
2 beaver
1 opussum
1mink

Super pics! I was hoping to try running a line this fall, but ran out of leave. I think it's something I'd enjoy and that my 5yo would find cool as all get out!

Thanks guys it is an enjoyable hobby of mine that can pay for itself. The skinning realy isnt bad once you get in the grove. I have an electric hoist to do coon and yotes it saves alot of pulling and time.I will try to post a photo or video of how it works.

That boy looks like he is having fun.

Trapping pics are always good. I gave up trapping coyotes due to mange and gas prices. I run a short line from my house after the first of the year and usually get some coons and a cat or two. My main focus the last couple seasons has been muskrats, even though lots of our water has disappeared due to the extreme drought. We have caught 168 so far this fall.

Nice! muskrats are a good target animal right now with the prices up I hope the market dosnt get flooded with them.I was able to pick up a nice mink this morning out on the line in a 110 body grip.

The Chinese seem to love the rats. They are making jacket liners out of most of them from what I gather. The drought has cut the numbers, so I think the prices will stay pretty strong. There were 600,000 on the auction at NAFA last spring and most got sold. I had some left-overs that sold this fall.

I will trap them even if the price drops. We have a blast doing it and besides, I have a BUNCH of money invested in muskrat equipment now and have to recoup some of it. I can't wait to hammer them again after the spring thaw. That is more fun than you can believe, as they are going crazy and act like they hunt your traps down just to jump into them.

congrats on all the success so far this year. trapping in idaho starts on another 6 days and then i will hopefully be setting some up to trap 'yotes, foxes, and bobcats.

Those mink are vicious little rats. The only muskrat we lost on our last trip was one that was half-eaten by a mink. If we had been there for another day, I think I could have trapped him. They are tough on trapped muskrats.

We had some crappy weather move in last night and it got some coon moving this on is in a pocket set guarded with a 160 bodygrip good sized coon but pretty pissy yellow.

Had a small coon in this pocket set with a #11 double longspring with a drowner.I endend this set for a mink but havent caught on in it yet so far this pocket set has produced 3 coon 2 muskrats and a possum this week.

Nice cat we have to draw a tag for them here and it takes a few years we can only harvest them north of 64.We are able to get an otter tag every 2 or 3 years.Until now I was the only guy I knew that had the pleasure of realeasing an otter and yes it is a rodeo. They are fast, powerful, and mean as hell when you go in on them.Took me 2 tries and a pulled groin before I was able to get mine out. After I got him out of the trap the otter I had ran to the creek bank and I swear he nodded at me and jummped in the creek.
