Every year a few close friends and I gather at the cabin on the eve of the Ohio shotgun season (starts tomorrow 12/1). We put on a hearty feast, reminisce about hunts of the past, tell a few lies and talk big about what's going to happen in the morning, all while enjoying some football & a few cold ones. There will be 4 of us on stand in the morning only one has a buck tag left, so the pressure is on him! Hopefully the meat pole is filled early! Here is a picture of "the cabin". Anyone else have some traditional gatherings before a season opens?

The night before we leave for 2nd season. I drive to my buddy's house in Wellington. I have to stop and get something to eat at the McDs right off the exit and then proceed to his house. We pack the trucks, discuss strategy, drink beer and have a meal. Usually up late and then up again 0500ish to start the trip. We try to get to our spot either 2 or 3 days prior to the start depending on schedules. Once on the way we have to stop at the little general store in the town closest to our camp to fill the water jugs and so I can buy a 12 pack of cheap beer. When followed correctly, these steps have ALWAYS produced meat :)

Back in the day, my uncles and grandpa would do a 4-5 day muzzleloader hunt in the Sandhills of NE. We'd put up a huge wall tent with a stove, burn a few steaks on the grill and tell the same lies that we all knew so familiar. Grandpa would cuss everyone for sneaking me beers. We'd hunt our butts off and maybe someone would shoot a deer. I left for college and never got to go with them. Sadly, they all had kids around that time also and nobody goes anymore.
