Son is in school in Colorado. What tire should he get for snow/two tracks ? Do those who live in the West always have chains with them?

A good all season tire should work for him. I always get 10 ply tires for my truck so I don't risk blowing a bead on a bad road. And tire chains are always a good idea to have in a box in the back just in case. I personally don't put them on until i absolutely need to (usually nuts deep in snow and cursing myself for not putting them on sooner). I wish I could remember the brand I had on my 4runner to be of more help...

Read some reviews about the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac. I've had two sets and really liked them. Best snow tire I've ever had and I've never had a flat (knock on wood).

I run Michelan MS2 on both of my 4runners here and they rock in the snow and offroad. They last forever to,

I have really good results with Toyo Open Country all season radials. 10 ply I would highly suggest too!

Cooper Discoverer is a great one too. I got a set last fall and they performed very well. Both of these two are excellent tires and I'm really impressed with the traction capability.

I always carry tire chains with me also. A must have I feel.
